Lost my Enthusiasm

LOL Only if you're Hilary Clinton.

She turned Obama down for the VP gig, telling Valerie Jarrett, ONE: Obama is too leftist, and TWO: He prolly gonna lose. And Hillary dont wanna go into 2016 tagged as a Leftie Loser.

The effing Social Security is stockpiling ammo, so what does that tell you about our prospects!

She has never wanted the VP slot. With her it is whole hog or nothing.

I was shocked as hell when I was nominated for one of the Best Of... contests about eight years ago. Even more damn shocked when I actually won.

DG, there's no way to please everyone. Ultimately, the only person you need to please is yourself. Hell, the only person you have the actual chance of pleasing is yourself. I don't know how the contests are/were done, but just like the voting and such, you can't use that as the yardstick for whether or not you continue. If you like writing - whether you're especially good at it or not - go ahead and write. If you send it to an editor and they tell you they're unable to do anything with it, try another. Hopefully the first one'll give some reasons why they feel the can't help much, so you can make adjustments before going to the next

You need a thick skin to do this kind of thing, at any level. I don't know what kind of stories you write, but from the sound of the other responses here on this thread, you have friends out here in Lit-land who don't want you to give up. I personally would never (and have never) discouraged another writer from doing this, and trust me, I've had a few folks make such statements as you have.

If you truly don't want to do this anymore, then there's little anyone else is going to be able to do to talk you out of it. However, you said you have ideas for other stories in your head, so it's pretty apparent that some part of you really doesn't want to quit, either.

DG, I could never understand why they take so long to announce the monthly winner. It should only be 30 days after the previous month. Waiting so long kind of takes the fizzle out of author's ego.

I sometime believe the money has more to do with the lateness of the Monthlies and the year end.

It takes a lot of money and time to run a site this size and two people have to be stretched thin.

That's why I feel they should do away with the monthly's and year end contest. I've won some of those but after so long a time (over a year) I even forgot what I wrote. It's just my opinion but I don't see anyone writing to get that monthly prize. Some probably do0n't even know when they won unless they check the awards page.

Oh, I took the advice of many of you and decided to write a story for the contest. I'll have to find an editor when I'm finished. Thanks for all the advice. We can all use it at times.
With respect
DG
