Lost Island (IC)

Tris

She made her way cautiously up the beach, numerous hurts and aches slowing her up, pausing occasionally to pick up something interesting and add it to her slowly growing pile of things that might be vaugely useful- water bottles, wooden debrs, an occasional luggage case or piece of metal or plastic that had ended up being washed up on shore by the churning waves made by the sinking ship.

Looking around he saw the same stunning red head now searching the beach. Walking up to her James said, “Sorry about earlier, I really didn’t see you until it was too late. I’m James Smith by the way.” Thinking back to his last thoughts he added, “by the way, you don’t happen to know if a doctor got ashore. I recognized you from the ship and saw that you worked in the kitchen, you didn’t happen to see the ships doctor got ashore did you?”

She was brought out of her dazed concentration by someone talking to her, it was the cute guy from earlyier.
She swept a stray red curl behind her ear atad subconciously before answering;
"Its no problem- not exactly high on the list of crappy things that have happened to us today."
she chuckled with rye humour at that.
"Tricia Gordon- but people call me Tris."
she replyied.
"Ummm, I haven't seen any of the doctors here.....but I haven't seen everyone yet so I dont know. Sorry I can't be of more help."

“If any of the doctors are around, I am sure that they are already helping out those that need it most.” James said taking a couple of the heavier things from Tris, then added “They will show up sooner or later, it’s not like they have someplace to be right now anyways.”

James snickered to himself thinking, “great, already making jokes at inappropriate times.”

A few yards offshore from where they were standing James spotted a body floating and waded out towards it. The water was only up to his waist and the person was obviously dead. “Looks like the Captain!” He shouted back towards Tris as he hauled the body back towards shore. “We should also remember to bury the dead we find before they start to bloat in this heat.”

Lani was biding her time, with this Andrew person, she had almost fell about laughing when he caled himself the leader unless anyone else wanted it. She would have spoken up herself but right now she was waiting to see what Andy and the others would do, before she stepped in and took her true position as the Leader of this rag-tag group of survivors.

"Now botany I can do" She said speaking up, "Mind you ... " She hesitated, snapping the heels off the shoes she was carrying in her hands, and slipping them on to her feet. It was a bit awkward but she would manage quite easily, "... This place does look rather more tropical than what I'm used to..."

She looked about at the group, what ... was it only beautiful people on the ship or something?

Once again she spoke up caling out to the group around them, "Come on then you lot, lets get searching"

Evangeline had been relatively quiet. Her thoughts were stuck on her father. Her coach. She was glad her fiancé hadn’t come though she wondered if she’d ever see him again.

"Good," he said. He turned and shouted, "Is there anyone versed in survival skills, or versed about botany? I know some, but not everything. If there is no one, I will take these two on an exploration of what's around us… You and you, you're with me."

"What's your name?" he asked the wet young woman.

“I’m Evangeline, friends call me Vange.” She replied as a man approached.

"I'm Kevin" he said as he walked up to an attractive blonde. "Who's in charge?”

Vange definitely wasn’t taking up any leadership role. Most of the people here were older than her. She was glad when the other man took up the charge.

“Are you able to treck through hell knows what?" He asked each of them referring to their footwear. He himself had put his boots on, and they were again molded to his feet providing optimum protection and comfort.
“I think we will do fine, won't we?" I said, smiling at the two ladies as I did so. Both of them were beauties in their own rights. Perhaps, under a different circumstance...

"Let's go then, before we miss out on the glorious sun!" I urged, as I pointed at the burning ball perched directly overhead. Mid-day - that meant we had probably six, maybe seven hours.
Vange nodded, she was still in her training shoes. Comfortable and durable though they were only meant for being worn on the court. She didn’t know how long they’d last here.

“I’m good. Let’s get this going.” She said as she realized how good looking the group around her was. She didn’t check people out often, being that she was completely loyal to her fiancé but the women were all drop-dead gorgeous and the men had muscle to spare.

“Faster we do this the better.” She said realizing another danger. They were a bunch of strangers alone on an island. If one of the men wanted to do something. It’d be hard to prove they did it. She promised herself not to let herself get stuck alone with any of them.

~20 minutes ago aboard the cruise liner~

The cruse liner jolted suddenly and John found himself taking hold of the nearest railing to balance himself within a hallway of the ship. A horn was heard blasting into the air followed by the shouts of men and women on the deck above.
Straightening himself again and fixing his collar John made his way up the stairs quietly and emerged onto the deck.

The Deck was a mess of people running around in a chaotic state with most passengers being frantic as the ship started to sink and the crew members doing what they could to keep everyone calm and evacuate people onto the rafts.
John frowned as it became obviously apparent the crew of this expensive cruise ship wasn't trained for this kind of situation and who ever was driving the ship was just an idiot to have come so close to the shoreline and run aground.

Things were certainly becoming a mess of things, and here he thought he would be able to get away from the stress of daily misfortune.

No matter John thought calmly to himself and sighed, this event would probably cause him to be late on getting back to work, but life was full of misfortunate events like this. Besides with a curse liner this big and with roughly 100 people on it never making it back to port people were bond to notice and send out search ships.

Looking up John suddenly realized someone was calling out to him, one of the crew members was waving frantically at him to get on one of the life rafts.
Not needing any more encouragement John did so and casually sat himself down within the raft as it was lowered into the water and rowed to shore.

~Current time~

John had watched quietly, while standing on the beach with his hands in the pockets of his black pants, as his raft was..or at least tried to be taken out again to pick up any other survivors or those who actually tried to swim to shore.
The tropical waves were too strong however so most plans of going back out to sea were wasted as the high waves simply pushed people back onto the shore much to their frustration and soaked them to the bone.

John for the most part remained completely dry save for a few wet spots that had washed up onto his white shirt on the boat ride over. Turning around John took the time to examine the jungle behind him and tried to get an idea on how big the island was they had landed on.

After awhile of looking at the landscape of the island John heard someone ask if there were any doctors and turned towards the others and gave a quick glance to everyone on the beach. There were a few people rejoicing while others were crying for their lost ones but John didn't see anyone who was seriously injured so he choose not to say anything.
He was on vacation after all trying to get away from the stressful dealings of work and dealing with every one's bitching.

John then noticed a few of the passengers start to gather together and prepare to go further onto the island.
"Terrific.." John said to himself as he pushed his glasses further up the ridge of his nose.
"Just what I needed..people running off into the jungle and perhaps getting themselves hurt." Deciding it be best to warn them before they did anything stupid John calmly made his way over towards the larger group of people who were about to set out for supplies. His ocean blue eyes fell to the one who looked to be taking charge of the group and judging from his stance and his accent he figured him to be a man from the southern states (Andy).

"Sorry to interrupt your little expedition but do you guys realize the dangers you guys could be running into in a wild and uninhabited tropical jungle...with no medical facilities for miles around.."
Johns eyes wondered over each person planing on going being sure to look each one in in the eye to see if they truly knew what they were up against.
He then looked back to Andy.

"While your idea is with good reason let us not forget that we weren't exactly out on a personal boat ride with no one knowing us to be gone...There's probably someone on the way right now and we'll most likely get rescued in a few hours or less if our wonderful cruise ship crew was intelligent enough to send out a distress signal."

((sorry if some of it's out of place I didn't quite get down who was who just yet but I'll edit and fix my post as I find out where everyone is.))

Tris could not supress a chuckle herself at these words, a smile brightening her face.
"Well, its kinda true too."
she afirmed.

Tris's slowly rising sprirts were sent back to depression land again, sinking with the depth of their situation as James waded into the water towards something- a body, the captains turned out- it seemed amazing they all weren't dead.

"Very, ahhh....practical, good idea"
she called back, marveling at his ablity to hold it togeather like this.
"Do you want some help..?"

I could see it was a case of different people having different ideas. It didn't really matter who was right or wrong though. But I wanted to stay out of this for now, and just go with the flow. It wasn't my nature, or at least the facade I put up, to get involved in decision-making.

Meanwhile, I looked out in the open, observing the rest of the people.

“What the hell James,” He thought to himself because he couldn’t believe he was nonchalantly carrying a dead body out of the ocean. “Help? She wanted to help?” James figured they were both in shock and it would dawn on them later the true significance of what was happening.

“We don’t have to be in too much of a hurry, I saw some other people gathering bodies over there.” James said motioning with his head while struggling with the heavy body. “Lets just get him over there for now, we should try and get some shelter together before it gets too late in the afternoon.”

James blushed as he realized what he just said could be taken a completely different way than he intended, not that he wouldn’t mind shacking up with this beauty. “Damnit, there I go again thinking about sex while I’m fucking carrying a dead body,” James thought.

Andrew Walker

Andy looked over the new guy, big guy with glasses. He snorted, "You give a good arguement, but I saw the distress equipment, it was busted, someone forgot to check it afore we left. So we aughta see what is around us. Specially because we need water. We'll be careful, but I'm not gonna sit on my ass and wait to be picked up or die. I'm not going down without a fight, and I'm not lettin anyone else die here either. No more'n'salready kicked the bucket that is." he said. Andy was trying to be polite, but what did this fellow expect them to do? Stand around and get sun burnt, waiting, suffering from dehydration until some helicopter that wasn't coming anyway found them?
"C'mon, y'all still with me?" he asked.

"You give a good arguement, but I saw the distress equipment, it was busted, someone forgot to check it afore we left.

"Terrific" John thought hearing that the distress signal haddn't been givin out. People can be so incompitent at times.

"From the judge of things we do have some supplies of water...and I suppose since it is a possiblitiy for the rescue team to not get here within more then a few hours we'll need food and water, though I doubt anyone should be that hungry or thristy twenty some minitues into being stranded."

The day was in the afternoon last time John had checked and a lot of folks had been eating lunch, he himself had eaten his lunch earlier aboard the boat and wasn't as hungry or thirsty as some of the others..or the more a larger ones.

"Look, friend we don't know what's out there and your taking a group of people who quite honestly looks to have never stepped into a woods no less a jungle. You've probably never set foot in a jungle as well. Let's think logically before rushing into any more unnecessary dangers.

John took a deep breath then and sighed pushing his glasses up on his nose again.

"You guys are looking for water correct?..well you'll need fresh moving water and moving water travels to the lowist point which in our case will most likely be ocean level..before stomping through the wildlife of the jungle and getting yourselfs lost, bitten or poisoned by dangerous inscects or wild animals
why not move along the shore line instead. There's still plenty of shade from the palmtrees and while your at it you can get an idea of how big this island is without getting everyone lost.
If a rescue team dose come for us it'll be easier to find you too if you stayed along the beaches."

"Now yer talkin sense." Andy admitted grudgingly. "We'll do that then, you help organize everyone else, see how many we got, and how bad they're hurt." he said half suggestion, half order.

John sighed lightly in relief that Andy was being sensible about it now. Perhaps not everyone was fools here and that was a start. Order amongst the survivors would definitely help keep people from doing stupid things and get themselves or others hurt.
He may seem cold and bossy at times but he was still a doctor and as a doctor he looked out for the better health of others.

Taking Andy's idea into consideration John didn't see anything wrong for a head count of who was here, it certainly would make it a lot more easier and quicker for the rescuers to know how many had survived the wrecked ship and not leave anyone behind.

Nodding lightly to Andy to show he would do as he asked John then turned and started taking head counts of everyone that wasn't dead and helping a few of the more dazed or too depressed to move folk to the shade of the palm trees.
All he needed now was some fools to die from heat exposure and force him have to start over in his recount of the survivors.

"Not that I want to interrupt, but now that we're pretty sure help is not going to be on its way any time soon - where are we going to sleep for tonight?" I said this with as innocent a smile I could conjure. I hoped it was disarming enough, so that my bossy streak does not get picked up on.

Andy considered, "I assume on the ground, we can work together and build little shelters for a few people per shelter. Quarters might be cramped, but least we'll be out of the night wind, and rain if it comes." Andy suggested as he started walking along the beach, Lani Sierra, and Vange with him too.

Sierra Hughes

"In that case, should one of us get started with the shelters? Before it gets too dark! I mean, you never know what can happen in the dark." I mused.

Andy considered Sierra, "Maybe you're right, but we still need to go find water, Maybe Miss Lani, and Vange could find people to start building shelters? if Either know how to do so, while you and I find the water?" he asked, throwing out suggestions, to see what reaction he got.

Sierra Hughes

"Or we could just go grab some water, and be back before you know it. That way we can make sure we will have both water and shelter. At least for tonight." There was a certain reluctance for people to get moving. I figured maybe Andy and I may be sufficient for a few bottles of water. And maybe things would have sorted themselves out on the beach by the time we got back.

andy nodded, "Lets do that, we can do more heavy duty exploring tomorrow, when we have the whole day." Lets go then?" he asked curiously.

Andy actually blushed for a few seconds at her teasing. He walked off down the beach, ahead of her for a while, and then he slowed to allow her to fall into step beside him. "Might I ask you what you did before you decided to take up island exploring?" he said a hint of teasing in his voice too.

I walked a few more steps, letting that question sink in. It was a classic dilemma that I faced on a daily basis, except that I hadn't expected to run into one so soon. Considering that we're stuck in the middle of nowhere, on a lost island.

"I do some waitressing, at a night club just at the edge of my town." I answered. This was what I usually gave to people that I weren't familiar with.

he smiled, "You seem to well mannered and such for a waitress. Either way though, I bet you were a favorite." he said smiling at her.
"I do whatever I can, was asigned as a deck hand, liftin stuff for the rich folks. Most of them never knew I existed. Taint nothin but slime on they're pretty sandled feet." he said with a shrug. "Not complainin mind you, but wish some of them'd see that jest cause I was raised poor doesn't make me garbage. They can think I'm trash because of my attitude, doesn't bother me none, but wish they'd pay attention to me long enough to see the attitude, not instantly go ewww, yuck its a white trash hillbilly." He was assuming with his words that she wasn't well off either, for very few waitresses made an enormous amount of money. "But anyway I'm done with my rant." he said with a awkward slightly embarrassed laugh. There was something about her that intreagued him, something more than she let on to people.

"Okay I have a little problem with sleeping out here. I mean we don't know what's in that forest. Something could creep out at us. There's nooooo way I'm sleeping alone on a beach on some crazy island and doesn't the yacht have a black box thingy? Wouldn't someone be on their way already?" Vange asked, her arms crossed. She wasn't a typical spoiled rich kid, her money came from her hard work and tennis victories, but she still held herself above sleeping outside on a deserted island.

Sierra Hughes

I laughed. And it was a genuine one, which took me aback for a moment. This was a regular bloke, but a honest one too.

"I like your honesty Andy, and for what it's worth, I think you're looking pretty good for a white trash hillbilly," I offered. I found myself lapsing out of my usual optmistic, to the extent of bimbotic, exterior that I usually put forth. There was something disarming about this man. I was wary, yet comfortable at the same time.

We walked on a bit more, and I was glad that the sun was kept out by the top of the trees.

"And for your honesty, I shall let on a bit more about myself. But only if you can guess what else I do for a living."
