I am going on a cruise and i need to stop cut my calories.

i love salads but not good at dressings. if anyone has any good food ideas or recipes for dressings please post them

or any support you might have.

i use to have this 3 day diet does anyone know anything about it. i went on it a few years ago and it worked. i can't find it!

thanks
kg:kiss:

No more soda. I'm not sure about the calories, but what about some sort of oil & vinegar mix? I like it, and I don't want to know if it's bad for me!

Good luck, have fun on the cruise!

Whether you lose the weight or keep it off, losing 10 lbs in a short time really isn't healthy. The 10lbs would probably mostly be water weight and is looking a little bit better worth hurting your health in the long run? Plus, if you starve yourself before the cruise you'll just end up eating more when you're there and gaining more than the 10lbs back!

That said, good luck!

EE, you evil woman! The dressing I'm talking about is mostly vinegar, some water, and oil... hmmm... Ohh, you evil woman:

2 TBSp dressing prepared contains 15g total fat (2g saturated fat) 1g carbohydrate, blah blah blah...

Sighhhh... But I do feel like's its not the worst thing I could be having, considering that I try to make it to the pool 5 times a week for an hour. It's a balance - if I deprive myself of too many things I like, I'll get frustrated and completely break down.

Thanks, EE -

I'm still quite the big girl myself - but I've lost about 15 pounds since Valentine's Day, when I joined the gym... I'm going to be soooo excited when I get below 200 again!

Thanks for the heads up on the olive oil - when I make more dressing, I'll just up the water content and cut back on the oil.

Hmmm... I'd be bored. Good for you, though!

I'm getting a lot more fruits & veggies & less breads & pastas, and Subway just makes me vaguely stomach-achy, plus it's not cost effective for me. Sighhh. And then, 2 hours later, I feel as if I haven't eaten anything, after Subway. I don't know what it is about their food.

We've hijacked kissinggurl's thread...

Isn't the food on the cruise going to be a horrible temptation?

Well, I know Im an unknown but I know about losing weight.
I used to be around 240 and I dropped to about 170, and the only
thing that works consistently is hard work. I took up boxing (which has since become my life, sad as it sounds) and thats the only thing that worked. It may have helped that I was 14 when I started fighting and the intense regimen melted me away to 165 by the time I was 16.

Way to go Joe!

Yeah, I intend to stick with this. It's gonna be cool.

Good idea. Hooray, someone finally acknowledged me here! I'm gonna celebrate with some masturbation.
Just Kidding.

LOL

That's the way threads go. Stick around, you too can have a fan club.

Just a note about fats:

Sure, they have more calories, but they make you feel fuller faster, and don't make your blood sugar unstable. Consider 97% fat free rice chips. You eat a couple, then half an hour later you have an empty packet. AND you STILL want more. The simple carbs are doing these things:

a) Your body's blood sugar levels are raised quickly, and soon drop after your body regulates it with insulin. Your brain sends signals to raise it again - which means more carbs (ie rice chips)

b) Replacing fats which would probably make you feel fuller with this yoyo blood sugar effect, and also... if it's 97% fat (and guilt) free, wouldn't you eat more of it?

c) Creating excess energy (simple carbs = glucose = energy) which doesn't get burned off if you're just sitting there eating rice chips which you think are 97% fat free.

Eating fat doesn't necessarily make you fat. Too many simple carbs does. The Atkins diet is comprised of as much fat and protein as you want, but only 10 grams of carbs a day. Missy Eliot lost heaps of weight with that diet. And she wasn't too petite. Now I'm not saying that eating fried foods everyday is particularly good for you (Dr. Atkins allows fried food on the diet), but the demonising of fats is a dangerous message to send - some go even as far as saying that the demonising of fats has been responsible for the growing weight fo the average American, which, despite low-fat high-carb diets, continues to grow.

I'm not proclaiming to be an expert, or rag on anyone, just after watching a particular girl go through any measures necessary to not eat fat, or not eat at all, I'm a bit wary. 10lbs is about 4.5 kgs, and it might seem a lot, but will it affect the way you look?

PS: Atkins takes two weeks to work, and would probably require the book, so if you're looking for a quick fix, probably not Atkins.
PPS: 'Eat Fat, Lose Weight' is a book I read a few months ago. Good advice in it, can't remember the author, maybe Amy someone?
PPPS: Sorry for the long 'note'.

PPPPS: Olive oil is monounsaturated and is good for your heart. How many Greeks do you know with heart disease or high blood pressure?

Thanks, I_Edwards! There was a thread (which seems to have languished) of lit folks trying to loose weight, on the general board -
lit weight loss thread

I appreciate what you're saying about the fat not being the be all and end all... as long as I'm keeping the excess sugars low (cut the soda, use fake sweetner in tea, fewer condiments in general) and eating things in moderation, I'm not counting calories or anything like that... I'm awful at it.

Loosing 10 pounds can make a difference in how you look, especially if it's through excercising, too. I've lost about 10 poundsish since mid-February. I have pants which are now WAY too big, but they have a drawstring waist, at least... I can tell I have less weight around my hips, and my thighs. I still need to keep swimming and working - but it's helping.

I'm way more energetic, too - it's all good. =)

i have some hints:first ,drink some water first thing in the morning;then drink at least one and half bottle of water can help your body and your skin and fight the hydric retention;the more effective way to lose weight is a good diet and mainly jogging at least three times at week for half an hour.Cut off all the soda and coke and sweet drinks:Eat fruits and avoid drinking anything during the meals(it slowers the digestion and make the belly more full, even if temporary).Olive oil is good, but you must eat it raw, noncooked and not too much on the salad, with some lemon. No alcohol,no beer, and instead of using sweeteners, try with some wild honey:the taste is different but it's more healthy.
Last but not least,a healthy life and sex life can help you in more ways than one.I'll second the others in warning about the risks of losing weight in a short period:it's useless and not good for the skin and your metabolism too.

I know that the Atkins diet is very controversial, and it's turned into a big money-maker, but I've been keeping to it for a few weeks and have lost close to 10 lbs. The dietary restrictions (drastic reductions in sugar and close to no carbs) can be really tough at first (gave up my morning bagel, and no fruit juices), but from talking to others, it seems to be a good way to lose a moderate amount of weight and keep it off so that your metabolism adjusts to a new pattern of nutrition.

Of course, upping your level of activity/exercise is the only sure way to keep your weight at a particular level--and also improves how your weight is distributed! I've lost 10 lbs, but until I started walking more, most of the remaining weight was still concentrated around my stomach!

I've lost 40lbs. When I told a good friend of mine how this diet was going to work, his reaction was "Doctors are really crazy down there in Mexico! sheesh!".

I used to go to the gym everyday; the doc prohibitted exercise. He says that first you have to lose the fat and then you concentrate in reafirming your body. Excersice only makes you..uhm tighter? so its harder to lose weight.

Water is very important. I drink at least 50.7 oz a day. I think the main key is to really set your mind to dieting. Trust me, it is not an easy thing to do but the results are very motivating. A VERY stong will is absolutely necessary. This doctor (he is a nutriologist) helps you learn how to eat, what to eat and when to eat. I know that american diet is waaaay much different than Mexican. Our gastronomy is based on lots and lots of tortillas and oily stuff. It is soooo good!! The good thing about this diet is that if you know how to balance your meals, then you don't have to give up a good "taco" :p Also, when you eat, don't eat until you are completely full..that is not necessary. How many times you have regrets for eating that "last slice of pizza" or whatever. You have to learn when you are satisfied and then your stomach will get smaller.

For me, this past 6 months have been quite a challenge..but I can say that it has been worth it. I know how hard it is so I really admire anyone who decides to do something good for themselves.
Good luck to you.

I'm still a virgin here on the Lit. I''ve been reading a lot and I know how picky a lot of people is about grammar and good english writing. Bare with me please?! this is not my native language!

If you want to loose weight healthy, just start to exercise. No huge diet overhauls...just get out and move. Ive been running regularly for 2 months...I have lost inches and pounds. I didnt change a thing about my eating. This is also the healthiest way there is to loose weight too. Exercise turns back the clock! So just get up and move!
