So who went to the opening day of the movie yesterday, and is it any good?

I did. It was incredible. Outstanding and well worth the wait. it is the first movie I have been to the theater in 3 years to see. And I may go again.

I am so jealous. I am working so much that I don't get to have any fun-whine, whine, whine-LOL. We are going to try to go next weekend. I love the books & know that a few things are different from the book, but am still very excited. One of my best friends went to see it last night & sent an email that this movie is made for me-do they know me too well or what.

I went to see it yesterday and it was Very, Very good.
They left a lot of stuff out but it didn't hurt the movie at all. I was very suprised at how well it was made. The ring wraith's scared the shit out of me. This movie even went farther than my imagination could take the book. Which is saying alot!
It was about three hours long but I still felt like it was only a half hour.
You have to go see it. And I am not very happy about waiting a year to see the next one.

I didn't but.....

That is a movie that I am very excited to see.
I rarely go to movies because I live out in them thar hills but I plan on making a special trip into the big city to see that movie.

If you guys go I would suggest the new theaters with Dolby surround sound. It is just so much better, you actually hear things flying behind your head. And the bass rocks.

So is it a good movie to see even if you haven't read the book?

Absolutely! They did an excellent job setting the stage explaining what is going on and why and did a fine job explaining the various players and their role in this the first of the three books in the trilogy. It is absolutely awesome!

I will definitely go see this movie again.

It's a MUST SEE movie in my humble opinion. :)

And, oh yeah, do NOT take a big carbonated beverage in there as this movie is just under 3 hours long and you will not want to miss a single scene.

the company I work for is paying for us to see the movie Friday afternoon. We got the tickets Thursday

Frodo lives

I went yesterday it was a long wait but I enjoyed it. At the end I didn't notice three hours had gone by. While everything in the book isn't there I think the director did a great job.

It doesn't have Tom Billogillo(sp?) which is a good thing.

The movie was so good I think I had about five orgasms while watching it - even lavender informed me that I was grinning like a kid throughout the entire thing. Then again, I'm officially a J. R. R. Tolkien nut so that's not surprising.

I can't wait for the trilogy to come out on DVD so I can watch it a couple thousand times. Perhaps they'll do the Hobbit or the Silmarillion someday. Then I can completely sever all ties I have with 'reality'.

I am kind of disappointed that Tom Bombadil is not in it. He is the oldest living creature in Middle Earth & the only creature that the One Ring has no power over, but I also understand about not being able to include every single character in the books. I am also very disappointed in having to wait until next year for The Two Towers to arrive in theatres.

I'm sorry but there's no way to include a man singing bad poetry and dancing around in yellow boots into a modern film without audiences losing respect for the movie. I have great respect for J. R. R. Tolkien's work but I never understood why he liked Tom Bombadil.

I think Tolkien wanted to inject a bit of humor into the story & show that there was at least one who was not affected by the power of the One Ring. Tolkien loved languages & poetry & did write all of Tom Bombadil's words. I am also waiting to see how much Arwen's role is enlarged in the movie. I don't recall her ever saving Frodo, but again, some characters had to be eliminated & I am assuming that Eowyn is one of them. I am also guessing that the Barrow Wights aren't included, since Tom saved Frodo & Company from them. It will still be a treat for me,even with the changes from the book. I would love to see a film of "The Silmarillion", but I doubt anyone except for die hard Tolkien fans would be interested in it. There are way too many characters & story lines for the average movie goer to follow.
