Alrighty, so, as Shereads puts it, I have escaped SRP into the vastness of the rest of Lit. In fact, I am working on things for the current Survivor contest and figured this was the place to come for one pressing need for one of the categories.

ie, Authors. The Chain Story category requires more than one person with whom the tale is told, and...naturally...despite (in spite of?) the assorted voices in my head, I'm still just me and, so, I need authors. Well, what better place, I thought, than Author's Hangout, right?

I mean, that *is* why they call it that, yes?

So, anyways, I also need to know how Chain stories work...what goes into them...how are they organized...the whole shebang, so to speak. Thanks...

Simple really. Chain Stories are multi-chapter entries of (at least loosely) the same long story, written by different authors. (please, fellow AH-ers fill in if I'm mistaken, is there a minimum count of chapters?)

So yes, in order to make one, you'd have to team up with some other writers.

As I'm nervously looking into running the Survivor race too this year, I might be interrested in starting a fresh chain here. When I'll do, I'll toot the horn and see who wants to join.

Not right now though, since I'm working on my SF, BDSM, Gay, Lesbian, Romance and poerty entries right now, multitasking like mad :) But hey, that doesn't mean that someone else can start a chapter meanwhile.

/Ice - broadening my horizon

I've taken part in one chain story, and the way that was done was that the "author" or supervisor or whatever you want to call it contacted Laurel and told her they wanted to set up a chain. She told them what to do then.

I don't know anything about the Survivor contest, but if you need an author, Remec, I'll be happy to volunteer. Just let me know.

Remec,

you might care to have a look here. It gives some insight into how we went about organising the 'Talisman' chain story in 2002. Be warned - the thread runs to fifteen pages.

Remec,

This is what the FAQ says about chain stories:

What is a chain story? How do I start one?

A Chain Story is one in which several (3 or more) authors collaborate to create a story on a specific theme or topic. The first author writes the first chapter of the story according to the theme or topic. The next author reads the previous chapter and picks up where the first author left off, continuing the story as he or she sees fit. And so on, and so on...until the last chapter is completed.
Chain Stories are a special category on Literotica. To start one, you must do the following:

1) Post your idea to the Author's Hangout in the Bulletin Board and round up any interested authors who would like to participate. If you already have a group of writers who are interested, then continue on to step #2.

2) Once you know how many authors are interested, you must get a schedule together of who will do the first chapter, who will do the second, etc. Then, you must decide how much time will be between chapters to allow each author to write their piece. We suggest that you leave no less than 4 days, but no more than 8. A week is generally a good amount of time, but it's all up to you!

3) The first author should create a story submission called "Chain Story - [Name of Chain]". In this submission, paste in the title of the chain and the schedule of who is doing which chapter(s) and when they'll be submitting them. If you've been planning this in the Author's Hangout and have posted the schedule there, you can simply paste a link to the thread containing the information into the story submission. We ask that you post the entire chain schedule before submitting the first part of the chain.

4) The first person submits his or her chapter to us, selecting the category "Chain Stories". Any story which is submitted to "Chain Stories" without following these steps will be moved to whatever category the subject matter dictates.

Wouldn't it be something of a grand idea if all (or those that were willing) survivor entrants collaborated on a chain story, thus giving and receiving at least minimum points for that category to each other?

Just an idea.

Damn, Remec. You're gathering quite a posse here. :)

What can I say? "It's good to be the...", oh drat, I'm not king, am I? <sigh> Well, it's all good...now to begin soliciting subject matter...<g>

<looking over the posse>
Alright, pilgrims, 'fore we get into them saddles and chase us down that varmit of a story, we need to make sure we all know what we're after. Now, I know there's any number of sidetrails, canyons, old river beds, and abandoned roads leading into the mining camps and prospecting claims...so, choose how ya wanna get there, just keep after the same critter. Comprende?
<blinking>
<shaking head and twitching>
Wellll....wasn't that...what that was...special?

Oh, and thanks CM for the info...I should've thought of the FAQ myself, guess I was caught up in the whole giddyness of something new and the anticipatory excitment that comes with it, y'know?

<smile>

I might be persuaded to help author your chain-story Remec, if you agree to perform another striptease for me!

:D :devil:

Long Live Prince Willy!

Hmmm....tell ya what, tell what you want him to dance to, and we'll see what we can come up with for you...

<sly grin><twinkling glint of mischief in eyes>
And then we'll worry about stripteases too....

hehehe

(BTW: That last bit of Willy and Cassidy was post 300 for me. Nice little milestone, eh? <g>)

Gauche,

If the collaboraters were unwilling, would the story also qualify for Non-consent and maybe, BDSM? Just wondering.

Can posse members have their own posse? Will those in my posse then also be in the posse I'm in, by proxy? And what if I'm in one of my posse's posse? Won't that get a tad bit confusing after a while?

Besides, I AM a bloody posse all by myself. ;)

ok well i am well and truely confused now Icingsuger..foar to much posse footing about for me to keep up with*L*

Not sure, I think it would most likely have to go in the brand new category of "Blackmail" (cue Pythoners)

Well, let's get started, eh?

Great...I've got the FAQ info, a string of people interested in writing, now we need to come up with the theme or story hook and a schedule.

Suggestions?

Favorite things to write on or avoid?

How long do these things tend to run? Shall we build the ending into the schedule then? Will we need to take more than one chapter a piece?

Respond here or in PM as you wish...
