I'm trying to find a story that a read a while ago but can't remember it. In the beginning parts the kid is living with his family in the country on a farm. He goes to a waterfall to gather salt and he saves his Indian neighbor from being raped. The land has some resource under it and some bad guy trys to fun the family off the land and the son kills the guy in defence but has to flee with his family and woman that he marrys be for him and his Indian neighbor and husband come with to Oregon but don't go all the way there. They gather lots of people along the way and start a town. He had 4 wife's atleast I think. The bad guys wife. The girl he's been in love with. A woman he saves and a Indian girl along the way. Not the Indian neighbor I mean. He traveled and stopped at ports getting stuff for the town and on the way saves slaves. One point he is in New Orleans and rides a river boat full of slaves as the port is on fire.
