I was on my way to work this morning and they were talking about this man that got stopped in an airport because his passport said he was 123 years old. They looked into it and he actually was that old. They asked him how he did it and he said yoga, no spices, and celibacy. Now as you can imagine the radio host and a majority of people seemed to be saying who'd want to live that long without those things?

So my question to people here is would you rather taste great flavors and be with great people knowing it was taking years off or do you think it's a good idea to go without and extend your time here?

No spices, *and* celibacy? What's the point? Life is meant to be lived, with all the joys and heartaches that come along with living fully.

Everyone is different, just because he avoided those things means nothing, whats ment to be will be

Good Genes had a hell of a lot more to do with it...

I've had both, but not for much longer.

Wine, women and song and a few other things eventually catch up with you.

Fun life. Otherwise, what is the point? And I don't believe a 123 y.o was at the airport.

Three old men were sitting on a bench when a reporter approached them. “I wonder if you three would be willing to do an interview and tell me your secret to long life,” the reporter asked. The three old men agreed and the reporter asked the first old man his secret to long life.

“I never drank alcohol, I never smoked tobacco and I have been married to the same woman for fifty years.”

“That’s really remarkable!” said the reporter, “And how old are you?”

“I’m 93,” said the first old man.

The second man was asked the same question on his secret to long life. “I drank on occasion, I smoked, but not often and I dated some.”

“And how old are you?” asked the reporter.

“I’m 91,” said the second old man.

Finally, the reporter approached the third old man and asked his secret to a long life. “I dated every woman that would go out with me, I drank until I passed out and I smoked three packs of cigarettes a day.”

“Wow!” said the reporter, “And how old are you?”

“29,” replied the third man.

ROFL, give me a fun life.

I'm here for the good time, not the long time.

But I am actually... starting to reconsider my stance because there's one person in particular that's really pissing off and she's getting big enough to smack the cigarette out of my hand.

Had both ,and given another chance would do most of it again .

The OP’s question has even more merit these days seeing as we are living through a pandemic. Our household choose to live in the moment pre-COVID more so from being empty nesters and being at a point in life where it’s time to recognize it’s not going to last forever. So we might as well leave it all out then on the playing field.

Post COVID , there’s more of a emphasis recognizing how important it is to stay healthier, I. E. Making better food choices and vitamin supplements , getting 8 or more hours sleep each night. Basically preventive maintenance to give our self’s a better chance of not falling ill.

My favorite quote (trying to remember it as exactly as I can). "Life is not supposed to be lived preserving yourself always, never taking risks, never doing exciting things; we are not supposed to reach the end in pristine shape. Instead, we should reach that final place used up, everything in our bodies at the end of their life, and say "wow, that was one hell of a ride". I can't say I have necessarily lived my life like that, but the therapist I worked with for many years, now she was like that *lol*"

I concur with the skepticism about the 123 year old in the airport.

But I think a balance of living healthily enough to actually enjoy things, but also hedonistically enough to enjoy things, is sort of the key. I know plenty of people who did ALL the things and died unreasonably young, or ended up so unhealthy they've consigned themselves to decades of everything being very difficult.

The two are not mutually exclusive. A fucking fun and fucking long life for me!

Better to have a short life full of the things you like doing, than a long life spent in a miserable way

Most fun things (done with a little care and restraint) won't kill you, and I doubt 'death by Turmeric' has ever been recorded, so I'll carry on doing both, thanks :D
