I like blurts because I think there is a lot of truth in something quick and spontaneous. They are revealing about personalities.

It is safe to say I miss all coded references because I'm not a code kind of person. I prefer my communication straight up. I have nothing against them - to each their own. It's just not something I engage in.

So, if anyone has been sending me coded messages - I've missed them completely.

Paul, from Blissful, Oblivion.

I’m with Thandi on this one. I find them interesting, and occasionally revealing, though sometimes they’re so steeped in double talk I have no idea what’s actually being said. I blurt occasionally on the BDSM blurt. It can be cathartic! :) Never on the other two until recently, and that was just a once off to acknowledge someone’s generosity.

Occasionally I’ll run across a series of, what looks like, people making passive aggressive blurts towards other Listers. I don’t enjoy that so much.

I don't like the one that's color-coded; I can't remember what stands for what. Otherwise, those are fun threads

What is this color coding of which you speak?

It's on the "tell them what you're thinking, good or bad" thread. It gets revived occasionally

Happy Monday everyone. Whether it's the blurt thread, Dear Litster, Dear X, the boards are full of messages with thinly veiled secret meanings. Some we are able to figure out, some are so veiled only the intended subject will understand. what drives us to post secret but not so secret messages. What is it about our psyche that revels in them when we understand or are the subject. Even when it's derogatory it's different than being told straight up. Why do you like it? Why do you post messages in that way? Why do we enjoy reading them?

You've listed my favorite threads. :)

Dear X and Dear Litster both seem to be mostly positive comments. I enjoy seeing Litsters enjoying and praising one another. I assume that none of them are about me.

Blurt tends to run more to the negative. I assume all of them are about me. It helps me keep my attitude in check. ;)

Omggggg I love trying to work out who they are for in the Dear Litster. Yes I'm easily amused :D
I love seeing people post about others in a positive way.
The blurt thread makes me either :D or  mostly :D.

I agree with Thandi you can learn a thing or two about people by watching their posting style!!

I like these threads too. I like knowing someone well enough that I can post meaningfully about them and that they'll get it but I don't have to share with the world who it is. The blurt threads help me blow off steam when i really dont want to have a big drawn out chat about something buy still want to get it off my chest.
If I can't figure it out I assume it's nothing to do with me and still enjoy puzzling out who they could be talking about.

I think I get a little thrill from posting in them, and receiving as well. Something about it being a private message, publicly delivered...maybe it gets the exhibitionist/voyeuristic side of me all excited. In a way it's a declaration of belonging, a validation of relationship, regardless of the nature of that relationship. I just really like it.

Today’s question proved timely. I had no idea the threads in question were such favorites. After seeing the responses I dashed over and looked at post/view ratio. Wow!

I was considering a post in Dear Lister. Not any more!!! At least until I’m sure I have it so properly camouflaged no one will guess who it’s directed to! :D

And, thank you for this v, ydahecnot!

Yeah, the tell them what you think of them thread is the one where you post in red what you think of an unnamed female Litster..

Blue, if you want to 'talk about a male...

Thanks, RA. I don't think I've ever seen the thread, but if I do stumble across it, at least I'll know how to post! :D

Yes, well, honestly many threads are silly. Most are fun. Some are flat out ridiculous.

Then you have the "What the hell were you thinking when you came up with that idea" threads....

It's just plain fun talking to someone in a coded language, really. :)

I use the Dear X thread for an outlet. I say things to people in my life who frustrate me, or those who I have said things to as politely as possible, and they still don't get it... I get some of the frustration off of my chest and I can then go back and speak to them politely again. Only once our twice has a blurt been aimed at a Litster. And, yep! So right. Thinly veiled, and they know who they are... I don't really enjoy reading other people's messages in those threads. Peolpe just go on, unload, and leave! Rather negative...

*wanders in, looks around, wanders out to check she's in the right place*

I know!!! If we threaten pda's and other thread hijacking debauchery maybe he'll come in waving his badge...and laydown a question...

commencing in...
10...9....8...

Let's all get naked and maybe he'll come in waving more than just his badge.

Uhh...

Yes...

I seriously just said that.
