The poets...always the poets and the poetry

And the pictures in the "Control Me" thread.

The gifs... definitely the gifs. They stop me in my tracks, some of them.

(penalize me, if you must)

The genuinely good people that are on this site. I don't know loads of people or whatever. But there are a few people with whom I really enjoy talking. There are some amazing people here.

May your HumpDay be the humpiest.

What rarity happens at Lit that makes you take pause and experience it for what it is? Good or bad, aren't there things here that make you stop and look? (Penalties will be assessed for each answer that includes any form of "boobies")

People here who really take an interest in what makes you, you.

Rare forms of kindness. Sometimes the outright rudeness is a bit shocking and makes me take pause.

Mostly it's the people though. There are some really great people here and they make the experience great for me.

The smile or laugh that happens upon my face while here. It might be a silly joke or a picture, but I typically smile more when I'm visiting this world and not for the sexual reasons ... sometimes.

While I am male and cannot speak for the women and their likely far higher percentage of random PMs, I've had very good luck with random PMs and they are typically welcome treats.

The truly astonishing people are what draw me in, their stories, their history, their unique personalities that make themselves the wonderful humans they are, on and off Lit. People make a forum what it is and all of your have contributed in creating a diverse, stimulating environment and I thank you all for it. :rose:

Basically, others openly bright, intelligent, expecting similar.

(NOTE: That last sentence was an acrostic. ;))

I'd lay my vote for honesty as well. Online most people are wearing masks, some consciously some subconsciously. I am always struck when someone reveals those telling details that demonstrate their simple humanity. Genuine people are like a tall class of cool water on a hot day. Then I would lay a second vote for some of the gifs and images that pop up - porn is easy (and common), eroticism in a photograph is much harder to capture.

This...

Even things such as this are poetic.

People radiating simple humanity.

It doesn't get any more beautiful than that.

Most of the people I've encountered around here tend to be fun, cool, uninhibited and laid back. The vibe in general is pretty rare. That's what makes it fun. :D

I was about to type something of my own, but then I realised that Paul_Chance had summed it up beautifully:

I am always struck when someone reveals those telling details that demonstrate their simple humanity. Genuine people are like a tall class of cool water on a hot day.
For me, that's it in a nutshell.

People radiating simple humanity.

It doesn't get any more beautiful than that.
I agree! :)

Ooooohhh!! Endless said "The Word"!!

And I think Callmetim should get bonus penalties for that bit of wit :applauseicon:

Very self centered, but a rarity for me here is totally, totally misreading somebody's message. IRL I'm extremely good at reading people. Here I go horribly off track at times. It's disconcerting, and I usually don't like my response to it, and it gives me pause.
Ok, I will call it self aware, and not self centered... :D

And the depth to which you can drop in with a person (male / female / sexual / platonic) at astonishing speeds. Wow.

I try to avoid any drama as best I can. Sometimes (and it seems to come out of the blue), something really ugly develops - like some high school brawl - where you can't take your eyes off initially. I can usually control myself and let the turmoil flow past though.

I guess what makes lit an interesting place over other sites I've frequented, is that it is the EXCEPTION, rather than the rule. My guess is that the name, "Literotica" involves people with higher levels of intellect than other sites I've been in, so the level of adulthood is also higher. People understand things more. The "literary" aspect brings the intellect out.

There is a difference between hearing, and listening. You can hear many things - and tune much of it out. But to listen is a learned skill. It takes practice. It means that you are trying to understand the intent of the message before responding instead of knee-jerk reacting to what is said.

Reading skills are the same. Sometimes what is written can easily be taken out of context. You can't see body language in what is written. But if you read using the same skill set as when listening, you try to understand the intent of the written word, vice simply react to the written word. People of higher intellect do that naturally. They try to see the other side of what is written. That is a trait I see frequently in lit. The attempt to understand what is written.

Naturally, my posts do not get that level of scrutiny though - I am typically ignored...like this post....:D

Beautiful!

Humanity and porn!

Not ignoring this bit, Jeff. And it's often more than just an attempt to understand what's written. Genuine advice and interesting discussions can flourish in such an environment.

I also agree with Paul Chance who summed up the best parts of the Lit experience that can stand out from the constant feeding of the forums. Some days Lit can seem awash with pointless or duplicate new threads, and sometimes someone gets an idea and establishes a thread of wide appeal and it thrives. Those stand out. Like this one.

Then there are the stand out stories (remember those..) I look back and see what else the author may have written and take the recommendations of others to find something new which I may not have considered before.

Finally, I always appreciate a bit of wit or clever word play.
Callmetim's beaut opine on being intelligently engaged satisfied.

I am tearing up here...someone read my post and responded....

*sniff...sniff

*Croaks out a soft, "Thank you"

Hey! I read Jeff post too (great point there!) and I'm going to respond as well. :D

*cues more "I'm Spartacus!" postings*

I actually quite like this part. :) So many people take what you say, make all kinds of assumptions based on their knowledge and experience, and jump immediately to all the outlying ramifications. Inevitably, their conclusions take up residence somewhere different than where you intended. There's no attempt to tease out the underlying nuances of what you've said. Or even ask, if clarification, or more detail is needed. Worse, they'll often ignore, or brush off any attempt to offer more information.

*shrugs*

General impatience I guess. Or perhaps a lack of genuine interest in you or what you're saying. Not a particularly appealing trait.

In the course, "Crucial Conversations," your example is called, "Telling a story." Your mind tells you stories to make more comfortable sense of what is being said. It creates the rest of the conversation internally (for efficiency) and your mind responds to your own conversation, instead of what is actually being said.

Listening is a learned trait - it does NOT come naturally. I am guilty of needing more time to learn the habit myself.

I've listened to that series. We must not react with violence or silence, but remain engaged. Communicating can be difficult when the stakes are high and emotions are strong.

Slips in a little later than usual......

I've often read that intelligence and wit are the most sought after characteristics for a potential Lit partner. Finding that match is always relative to one's own intelligence. You might be super smart, and I'm not so smart, which could mean I would covet you for your intelligence but there's a good chance you wouldn't be interested.

How big a gap is reasonable in intelligence. Does intelligence, like water, seek it's own level. Or can two people flourish even though there's a big gap?

I can only speak for myself that yes, I do seek intelligence level to mine. I want to be able to carry on conversations and debate about things that matter to us. I like someone who is knowledgeable in their realm of expertise. Even though I may not understand everything they know, it allows me to learn.

I like when someone challenges me to think about things in a different way. I may not agree. I may even a bit bratty in my thinking process, but I like the challenge. It doesn't mean I don't enjoy the process and having my mind opened to something new.

There are some things I am super smart about. There are some things I'm super dumb about. I think finding someone who can compliment your intelligence level just makes for a more robust and stimulating relationship.

Well said... couldn't have put it better myself... and I tried...

This ^ is so well expressed any repeat would fall short, so I won’t even try. :) I will add that I like interaction with different mental types. I’m reasonably intelligent and well educated in my field, but I’m a focused thinker. Meaning my knowledge base tends to be narrow, and specific to what interests me. People that pick up information on a wide scope fascinate me, with their range of information on a seemingly endless array of topics.

Will I retain what they say? Absolutely not! :D But it’s still mentally stimulating and helps broaden my world view. It’s also helpful in a general way. I’m a functional moron in areas that don’t interest me, tech stuff particularly, so it’s nice to have people to bail me out.

The witty part is…I’m not sure what. I like witty people, they make me smile :), but I’m not particularly witty myself. :( Does that make me witless?

Note: No question when I got up this morning left me at at loss! I think I've become addicted to this thread.
