My mind follows lots of pathways at the same time and digression can be great fun, but I agree about the discomfort induced by 2 posters playing out some fantasy in public ...it's a turn off

I'm also rather partial to watching people take, or attempt to take, control back ...it's an interesting skill and when it's done well should be applauded

Not to say that I'm a martial law proponent, because we all know how well that works, but why do you like to stray off topic?

It's the nature of an open ended question. The answer will likely to lead to the next inquiry. It displays critical thinking and a sense of engagement. I think we should be proud of ourselves for lessening your burden.

Stray off topic? Oh my gosh is that a punishable offense now? Lots of my friends and I have multiple conversations going on with each other at the same time either here or on im....and as always that usually means I am lagging one sentence behind and commenting on the first subject when the other person is commenting on the second subject. And as always...I am trying to trying to catch up.

So it seems to be only a natural progression to be able to carry out more than one line of thought at a time in any thread. Why so rigid? Where's the harm or where's the foul when things get off track. It isn't like the next poster can't just come in and right the ship by making comments on the original thought or question. Besides...some of the best comments that crack people up are made in a derailing moment. I see no maliciousness when people go off topic...just a little side dish to go with the main course.

I for one have always felt that my opinion carries no more or no less weight than any other opinion. It is mine and mine only...doesn't make it right and it doesn't make it wrong. But just because others state differing opinions doesn't mean I have to dilute or conform my thoughts accordingly.

I wield a riding crop, though under that threat, some posters will want to get out of line. ;)

An excellent analogy, even the words forum and party not entirely dissimilar, both describing a group gathering with purpose. Buttercream cookies for you.

I concur. Aqua and Chained need a pin the post on a panty thread. ;) I kid, of course, but when two people take up a full, off topic page, it's time to break out the crop.

Human logic rarely stays the course. In that venue of creativity, we explore, often finding revelation and epiphany through eyes and minds not our own.
mmmm..you mentioned "crop".... Twice...
:rose:;)

No pats on the head, you know the rules, no PDAs, of any sort, allowed ;)

Chained keeps referring to 'the rules' (which I've never seen) or throwing up new ones on the run.

I've come late to this party (thanks Rubenesque-Aphrodite, as usual your way with words provides some concise clarity) but if the OP really wants to saunter in with his badge, perhaps we should be aware of the rules as they now stand. From my recollection, lately we've had:

No PDAs, of any sort (except, maybe, for Chained's post to meet Aquagirl's briefs)
No hard to read font colours
No straying from Chained's query of the day (unless it appeals to his proclivities)
No in-jokes
No forming cliques
No verbose, long winded, rambling posts (Chained likes brevity and conciseness, except when he poses his topics)

In the interests of not having to too large a post, perhaps refer to Absinthfather's last Litiquette post here. Or the original rules, should they exist.

Now...there has been the threat of removal from the thread, or yellow carded, and I seem to recall at some point that other sanctions were suggested for derailers. Is it necessary to take policing the thread to this extent? It's hard to be a good girl or boy when the rules are seemingly made on the run.

Perhaps, taking a cue from Callmetim, instead of brickbats and bouquets for posts, we could have buttercream cookies and that crop of which RA seems enamored? Lit positivity all round.

Steps onto the carpet, snaps my heels together like a good soldier, removes hat and places under arm.....

Rules: there are none, there are only things which members of the Litiquette community have identified as actions that are frowned upon.

My proclitivites, of course, being the OP has it's privileges.

Banning someone from the room or issuing a yellow card, quite honestly I have no idea what that is in reference to, maybe I missed something in a post.

The original intent of the thread was to be a forum where people could discuss what they belive would be good Lit etiquette (hence the name).

The thread has morphed, as all threads do, and people come and go, and those are about the only absolutes I can offer up.

Replaces hat, pivots and walks off carpet.

I forgot...

No weeing....

Pretty sure the banning was to do with urinary relieving on the thread.

In my mind, the move with the hat, the pivot and saunter off the carpet was to that Taylor Swift tune. Clearly I'm in need of entertainment.

*moons the lot of you since I have already answered the topic of the day and I'm in need of something to preoccupy myself with*

Good morning Litsters.....it's been pretty active around these parts, always great to see. Yesterday we talked about staying in topic, and it seems there is a little joy in Litiquette-ville when things get derailed. I'll agree, it can provide some entertaining posts.

Today's topic is about melding real life and Lit life. It's inevitable, what we experience in our real affects how and what we post here. Do you, as a Litster, make an effort to try and keep the two separate? Or do you freely bring your real life into Lit. My hunch is that married people tend to keep more of their real life out of their posts where single people are more likely to let real life slip into their Lit posts.

What's your hunch?

I love it when you mix up Ts and Rs

Coming here is just as much an escape from RL as immersing myself in a good film is to me. Some RL things might pop up in my mind on both occasions, some might require and get a little attention.

I won't speak for anyone else, but mine is a mix. There are some things I guard very closely. However I also feel some of my experiences might can help others. I spoke about something once and got a PM who had recently been through some thing similar. I was able to point them to the best places for help and that was a great feeling.

Do I believe everything people post about the personal lives here? No. I just know that I'm honest in my interactions and have found a good blend of letting some real life and using Lit as an escape.

Good morning Litsters.....
Good morning Mr Chainey

I'll just be having a banana with some yoghurt for hunch today

There are some things I will never post on Lit: family and friends only ever get a passing mention for context and I avoid key bits of information that stalkers need on you. It's public domain so never post anything you wouldn't say out loud in a public place.
Since I started my MtF thread, I've revealed a good deal of my medical information because I think it's important for trans women to be better understood. If I'm feeling blue or depressed, I don't mention it or, more likely, just don't post at all: no one wants to read that shit.

For me, I typically keep personal things personal. But rl and lit can become intertwined. Sometimes people need a boost to help them in whatever they are dealing with in rl and the friends they've made on lit can be very helpful for that. I think it mainly depends on what you're looking to get out of lit.

I've posted pictures of my dogs and Gracie's been a member here. I don't talk much about my extended family. I'd hate for them to read something I've posted about them. My radio show is available for people here and on FB, so that's intertwined. I've shared my biz stuff with a bunch of folks, too.

On boards, I'll reveal mundane things about my real life, but not much.

Off boards, through PM, chat or phone call, trust is a two-way street. Some folks know very intimate details about my life. I also know their details. I've helped a lot of people with serious, real life situations through talking and asking tough questions. Sometimes the talks revolve around sex, sometimes they don't.

We are all real people, we are all in real pain and sometimes the pain feels better when we open up and share it.

I am more of an open book type of person but I always have been. It is of no surprise to me that this carries over into my postings at Lit. I don't worry so much about what I share here, either in PM, or on the boards. If I were married, I don't think that would change anything.

My hunch is that, yes, anonymity would be imperative to those who were seeking to carry on something extramarital that could quite easily turn bad if their identity were known.

I am like this also. I am me here and in real life. I feel like All read my mind, LOL
