What are your top five songs of all time and why? What is it about them you love? Does it remind you of someone?

This is just too hard because so many great songs of so many different genres. And I am a female, so there are so many different moods. But I will take a shot -- in no particular order:

1. Night and Day: Cole Porter and I like all the myriad covers done of it. It was first done in an old Fred Astaire movie and I love old movies.

2. Constant Craving: k.d. lang -- I love her voice and I relate to constant craving.

3. Adagio for Strings: Samual Barber. Beautiful, sad, haunting. Always makes me reflective and thoughtful.

4. Ring of Fire: Johnny Cash. I have always liked all his songs and that voice!

5. Unbreak My Heart: Toni Braxton. She sings this in an over-wrought manner, but when my heart is broken, I am over-wrought too. So it works for me.

There was not room to put all the Motown tunes on here, but anything Motown!

Absolutely impossible to pick 5. I'll pick a tune each from 5 favorite artists:

Grateful Dead ~ Friend of the Devil - classic tune that's been covered by many oher artists.

Allman Brothers Band ~ Melissa - They have so many good songs, but I know a beautiful lady by this name and think of her every time.

John Hammond ~ 2-19 - I could have picked almost any song from his Wicked Grin album on which he covers Tom Waits' tunes.

Lucinda Williams ~ Lake Charles - Here again, this in an album I could pick almost any track from. It won a grammy for best folk when it came out.

Johnny Cash ~ When the Man Comes Around - This song gives goosebumps. One of last big original songs. If you've never heard it, listen.

So no room for Petty, Beatles, Stones, Willie, Springsteen, Dylan, B.B., Hendrix, The Band, Floyd, Santana, Peter Green, Talking Heads, Kinks, Niel Young, Hank, Zappa, Doors, CCR, Norah, Hiatt, Police, or the Who? Darn.

Words will focus the meaning or intent whereas music by itself can let you experience whatever you are lead to feel in that moment. Come back to that same piece and you might see something different. I'm not saying either is better, each has their own place certainly. The openness of just music is what draws me, free to be creative with thoughts within a creative expression.
