I find it inherently attractive when someone is passionate about any topic. It isn't their knowledge or talent per se that hooks me, but rather their emotional engagement and energy when they express it.

This! I could listen to someone talk about a subject they have a passion for for hours on end. For example, the chap I see now, he's a fisherman of some note. It's not a subject I was ever interested in, it never entered my psyche but now...the passion, the way he lights up when he talks about it, the beautiful fish he brings me, it makes me want to go and learn how to do it too.

it's the fact that someone has a passion, something that burns in them, no matter what it is, that makes them attractive to me.

Of course! And last week he was part of a team of Japanese scientists that placed explosive detonators at the bottom of Lake Loch Ness to blow Nessie out of the water.

Greetings Literitians. It's Monday and a new day is unfolding before our eyes. Let's hope this week is a fantastic one.

All this talk about musicianship, greenthumbery and the ability to deliver a delicious bass got me thinking... What other traits do you value? I remember being asked this question on a psychology analysis at my old job (no, I hadn't gone crazy, we all had to do it- me, myself and I). But it was in terms of a romantic partner. I found this very interesting.

List these values in order of most important to least. Explain why.

1. Money
2. Talent
3. Looks
4. Humour
5. Intelligence
6. Occupation

I couldn't list these in any order. None of them are even virtuous. At the end of the day, none of these things come from the heart. None of these things quantify love.

I would rather have broke, hard working, attractive as in "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", average intelligence, and grumpy as hell. Just as long as he had a good heart, and it was full of love for me, I would love him and cherish him forever.

I also find most any talent or passion attractive. But what really gets me is the handyman type - someone who likes to build/fix things. I just find it so incredibly sexy. Also, a man who enjoys cooking, that's a great one too! And musicians, they're almost always sexy.

Check, check and check! ;)

How YOU doin? Lol

I'm only going to make one tweak to the order agreed by Little_Sister, Rainshine and SpicySweets. Here's my version:

4. Humour
5. Intelligence
3. Looks
2. Talent
6. Occupation
1. Money

Occupation and money simply don't matter to me. The important thing is that a partner pursues a career that they find fulfilling. Talent is higher up my list because it suggests a passion (as per the previous topic), but I don't have any preferences as to what that talent might be.

I won't try to pretend that looks aren't important to me, but I remember from my dating days that I met several girls who were physically very attractive but left me cold because they didn't share my outlook or sense of humour. (Okay, I wouldn't have stood any chance with them anyway, but I think my point still stands!)

For me, humour and intelligence are closely intertwined and both are important. I'm thinking of intelligence, though, in a broad sense (one that includes, for example, emotional intelligence) rather than as a score on an IQ test, which is meaningless to me. I've put humour at the top of my list because, with a romantic partner, I want us to spend the largest proportion of our time together sharing laughter.

Great point, with which I have to agree :)

Yeah money and occupation mean nothing to me. I have a job and I'm secure in that area so I don't need to date CEOs or anything. As long as she's not constantly borrowing money from me it's all good. :p.

Intelligence and humor are pretty essential, though. I love conversation and not having to explain jokes. I made a joke once to a girl and she responded coldly with "I'm sorry, but I don't know what you're talking about." Major boner-killer.

Look-wise, honestly, I'm not super picky, as I find all kinds of people attractive. But there does have to be that attraction.

1. Intelligence
2. Humour
3. Looks
4. Talent
5. Occupation
6. Money

But let me explain...Intelligence without humor is a drudgery. When people are smart and intelligent they look really good. I've met beautiful men and women who were idiots or were without humor, this made them totally unattractive to me.

Occupation and Money situations change all the time, so this is far down on the list. I don't know what would make people want to be with someone just because of their profession. Money comes and goes and for someone who's had a lot and lost it, it's not as important as the other things when it comes to being with someone.

That's the same list for me. Although, while money doesn't so much matter to me, occupation can be a HUGE turn on for me. Not because of the money, but because of the power. That's such a sexy thing to me. Man. For instance, the CFO of our company is not an ordinarily attractive person. She's not bad looking at all. But there is totally something about her that makes her attractive. And it's the fact that she's the CFO and a decently young one. I'd say mid-thirties.

Humour is by far the most important thing to me. Laughter is really important in my life. Breasts as perfect as Christina Hendricks' wouldn't make up for a dull sense of humour. And by that I mean a sense of humour that finds me funny.

You don't have to agree with me, but I'm very pleased that you do. ;)

So true! :)

I'd like to make another distinction. Senses of humour differ, and so it's not enough just to have one -- it's also important that the styles match. I've noticed, though, that some people seem to attach no value at all to humour. I dated a few girls who never even cracked a smile, and addressed every single topic of conversation with stern seriousness. That's Kryptonite to me (as NRJ says, a complete boner-killer!). :(

I couldn't survive in the bedroom without a healthy sense of humour. It's liberating to be able to laugh together on those occasions when sex doesn't go to plan. I'd suggest that a good laugh can sometimes be as much of a release as a good orgasm. :)

Yo true this, and what has been said before.

My list:
1 Intelligence
2 Humour
3 Talent
4 Occupation
5 Money

It doesn't matter how much money is around, but not-being able to keep to a budget is a relationship-killer for me.

Edit: I only now realized I didn't list "Looks". Now what does it mean I forgot them? Probably that the other five points are much, much more important to me. And hands.

Okay, I confess; I'm absolutely enamored, captivated, and enthralled with John Mayer. He possesses each one of the...err... Qualities? Traits? on the list.

1. Talent
2. Money
3. Intelligence
4. Sense of humor
5. Occupation

And he is a complete alpha man whore, which just makes him that much more irresistible... heh ;)

I saw him in concert a year ago. Actually, a year ago this week. I he played long enough, I'd probably give him at least a handjibber. He's pretty charming. Like pmann charming. But better at guitar. Slightly. :D

Oh Dear God, marry me?

Well, let me ask Munky. I think we're in an open relationship. :p

I find intelligence and humor virtuous, and if they're both not there, that's a dealbreaker for me.

And, sorry, but I have to be attracted to someone. Just do.

So, here's my order:

1. Intelligence
2. Humor (tied for first, really)
3. Looks (tied for first again - this is cheating, isn't it?!)
4. Money (see #5)
5. Occupation (I don't care what he does, as long as he can support a family and provide financial security, and he isn't miserable at work. Oh, and no crazy long hours. Sorry, doctors and lawyers - you're off my list)
6. Talent (Yes, someone with some kind of talent/passion is desirable, but not as important as 1-5 for me)
