There are two kinds of strengths: the strength to lead, and the strength to follow; the strength to control, and the strength to yield. There are two kinds of power: the power to strip another's soul bare, and the power to stand naked. Do not mistake following for weakness, for it is not. Do not mistake yielding for weakness, for in yielding there is resilience. Do not mistake the submissive's need for relatedness for inability to be alone. Submissive women are not weaklings. They are sensitive people who have a great deal of resilience in the face of their particular challenges. Submissiveness is a strength seeking a proper context.
Quoted from Yaldah Tovah, the writer of an article titled "The Healthy Submissive"
I was told it was offensive because it insinuated that to be submissive one had to be healthy, and that not all submissives are emotionally healthy. Not exactly, but something along those lines. I did not ever have a clear understanding of why it was offensive, but over in the BDSM talk section there is a thread called "Healthy Sub", I believe, which was started in direct reference to my sig. There was some heated discussion in the thread, but all in all, the discussion that followed was pretty thought provoking. *shrug*
ETA: I don't want to derail this thread, which is why I referenced the thread that was started in the BDSM section for anyone who is further curious.
In the end, there was interesting debate. Although, no one ever really agreed with my position, one of the gentleman that posted on the thread never disagreed with my position. Because he happens to be someone that I respect immensely on this site, that was enough for me to feel somewhat vindicated, I guess, but I still took my sig off.
Thank you for posting it. I find nothing offensive about it, and in fact, I do recall seeing it now that you've refreshed my memory. I'm sorry you got grief for it. People are too sensitive I think.
