Oof

I can't remember what it's like to be a child.

I moved to another country on my own at 14. I grew up pretty fast.

My parents were cops and in the line of their work they both developed some serious PTSD and were institutionalized at the exact same time. I was still in high school and because my parents were terrified of them dying and noone being willing to take a family of eight kids in, they raised is to be self sufficient. I was granted legal guardianship of all 7 siblings.

I honestly don't know how I pulled off keeping the household afloat financially, as I worked full time whilst finishing high school just to keep us sheltered and fed. My parents had no income for about two or three years as they battled the system to be considered disabled so they could access their pensions. The fucking state sued them and forced me to testify AGAINST them trying to prove that having a bunch of kids caused their illness, not their jobs.

They eventually won but I was in my third year of uni by then, still supporting the fam. I eventually had my own meltdown which led me to cut some strings. I guess that was the most adult thing I've done, ever. So... 22?

You can do everything right. Everything. And life can kick you in the balls and just like that...everything you did is gone. So I just keep it simple and do the next right thing. Being an adult is highly overrated.

Anyone else feel like a pro plate spinner, juggler, fire dancer of late? Yes? No? Just me?
*there’s so much shit goin on*
<cries of woe>
I miss 2019 when all I was worried about was paying off my credit cards, dealing with a douche of an ex hubs, managing a blended family with all the trappings, holiday meals, birthday trips, hurricanes, Dumb Work Stuff and my mom’s latest weirdo social media campaign.

But I digress. Here’s my question:

What’s something you’ve “handled” recently (testicles don’t count) that you dealt with, folded it up, put it away nice and neat, and then thought to yourself, “Well, good job there Sexy Trekksy, you handled that shit like a pro!”

What’s the last thing you managed and, afterwards, thought: “nailed it?”

Oh how I miss the certain and precedented times of 2019.

Gonna have to think on the question though, life has been a disaster recently, so I think it's been a while.

Oh boy - I work in the land of COVID and am knee-deep in strategic response planning... surely there must be something..

Ah yes - I put together a toddler bed for my little sunshine who sleeps over every Friday. It's beautiful.. a deep cherry wood that matches all the other furniture.. topped with the softest Sweet JoJo bedding and a tiny Casper pillow. She loves it.

"Nailed it!"

^^totally nailed it!!

I made zucchini bread this weekend and 3/3 ornery children ate it, two of whom subsist, much to my dismay, on a diet of 100% french toast sticks and ramen. Nailed it.

In other news, I’m glad I’m not the only one treading water right now in a sea of “wtf are we doing, again?” And, “How, exactly?”

I take great solace in this fact. :D

Zucchini bread sounds good, I've dabbled in the bread making thing this summer. Beer bread and sandwich. I like sourdough bread but that's a learning curve.

If you want actual accomplishments, it did make both killer crabcakes and some Guinness soaked brats this past weekend that played to rave reviews with guests, as did my sazeracs, which converted 2 sazerac virgins into sazerac lovers.

I've thought... I did patch / paint a couple of rooms. One of which is done completely with fixtures on the all ave everything. The other isn't finished yet, in terms of wall hangings and such, so this feels like a false victory.

God, life really has been a cluster fuck recently. I made an epic smore or two last week?

I feel like Giggle. A lot of second guessing in this pandemic world.
I’m going to say a perfectly cooked rib eye.
Nailed it!

I like my world nicely bland and scheduled, thankfully I have a job that keeps me within the normal walls of a hospital during a pandemic.
Like Fara, I totally nailed a flank steak this weekend. So good that I'm hoping to repeat it soon.

Work. Exciting stuff.

I have not been nailing much lately, and I mean that in every sense of the word...

And as I read this I'm imagining you looking at a project, box of nails, and a hammer while shaking your head. :)
