I am a curious sort and enjoy research (and reading, obviously) and looked into this one day. It truly is more like acting. You have to solicit yourself with a demo and hope someone will like your voice. You read what you get - and I promise if I got something as poorly written as 50 Shades of Crap I'd end up altering it so that the word "murmur" was used less often and the main character girl would have some chapstick so she'd quit biting her lips so damn much.

With self-publishing, the job of an editor has fallen by the wayside except for big publishing houses. People actually volunteer to read and edit books for free just so they can get a galley copy of a book.

So I will just continue to read for fun. And work. And when I get curious. :cattail:

Oh yeah. There are websites specifically for readers willing to provide info in exchange for advanced copies. Back when I had the luxury of staying home with my kiddo and had more time to read I would scour these sites for books that might interest me. And then wait to see if my request was granted. The more you read, the more influence you gained.
 
The laws of attraction are random and they aren't subject to reason or logic. Sometimes you're attracted to the completely wrong person. Or you're not attracted to who seems to be the "right" person.

It's easier to see when it's someone else. We all have the friend who is dating the girl who is just a bitch. Or the girl who is dating the guy who is a deadbeat. But the attraction and magnetism is real and undeniable.

On the other side, sometimes we SHOULD like someone. But it's just not there. Everything seems perfect. But the lightning isn't there. The burn and the fire and the spark... It's just blah.

What is it that causes that? Let's hear your stories about the times you were with the wrong person for the wrong reasons. Or the time you couldn't be with someone who seemed awesome, but you just weren't feeling it.

This is where physical attraction becomes an issue. There have been a few women who I thought ‘Why am I not into her?’ I never came up with an answer. I just wasn’t. And I’m sure others have felt the same about me.

But the thing is, there are other relationships where I wasn’t initially attracted to a girl, but once I got to know her she became way sexy. So the question becomes why didn’t that happen with the others?

Attraction makes no real sense. You can think about Freud or Oedipus stuff, but I don’t really buy into that very much. Why do we like certain music, a breed of dog, a color, a painting?

It’s all just a series of cells and brainwaves that line up a certain way. That’s what makes it hot.

I have never had this^ happen. I'm not saying it couldn't, but, to date, no.

This does seem to have increased my "what-the-actual-fuck was I thinking" post relationship* moments. Yikes. Might also be why I have not been noted for my relationship longevity.


*Errr, how are we defining relationship? Like, more than two days? :p
