We do not appreciate that. Not one bit.
We also tell them to pick up everything they see - especially the pretty breakable things.

That's my favourite thing. We have guitars and pianos and cellos and bagpipes set up through the house. It's like torture for children to come over because they can't touch anything. And when they do, I spray them with a water bottle.
Okay, the last sentence isn't true. But I have been known to play fetch with my nephew.
I don't talk politics in here, save that for the GB, but today is the last full day of 44's time on Pennsylvania Ave. Tomorrow the peaceful transition occurs and then it's 45's time to lead. How are you feeling about this? Ambivalent? Sad? Hopeful?
Children love pianos, don't they? I have a piano. Usually it goes like this:
Child: Can I play the piano?
Me (in my head): Well, I don't know, surely you must know whether you can play the piano? Have you had lessons? Oh, wait, you mean 'may I play your piano?'. In which case my answer is this - if you can play the piano, you may play my piano, if you cannot play the piano then keep your talentless, sticky little fingers off it or I'll cut them off.
Me (out loud): No. It's broken. Or locked. Or something. What a shame.
Collected company: Phew
(And sorry, Chained, I see that you have posted a question, and I'm not even slightly thinking about children playing pianos as a displacement activity to distract me from ... what you asked... really I'm not*runs away*)
They love pianos. And guitars. And anything that they can make sticky.
Do you have kids? Just curious.
What do you think?Do I have kids? What do you think?

Peaceful. That's debatable. I suppose in the sense that civil war probably won't happen, but things are not at peace right now.
I'm numb. I'm not scared, more deeply disappointed in how ridiculous the shenanigans are. Disappointed at how much hatred is circulating. Disappointed by how self centered our incoming cabinet is.
But I do have hope. Hope that we will raise our voices and not tolerate hate. We will continue to build an inclusive society. That we will educate our young to be critical thinkers so that in time these destructive thought patterns will dissolve.
Good news though, Trump lost the popular vote by about 3 million and only won due to an antiquated voting system that favored him. If we can manage to not get nuked before 2020 we might be able to fix some of the mess we're about to get into.

I suppose I should be grateful that the US election distracted everybody from the completely barmy decision my own country made. I suppose, too, that it's mostly none of my business. That said, I think we're all in for a rough ride. He is not fit for the position he will hold tomorrow.
Nor are his cabinet, from the confirmation proceedings. As a teacher, I'm afraid for education...
And everything else. Eh.
I will say this... I find this very interesting. I am not someone who normally talks politics. I don't care a whole lot because I think it's silly to argue. You never change anyone's mind. Ever. It just won't happen. And I line up with neither of the major political parties, so everyone hates my opinions.
But this is what I have found interesting. Two people have literally said to me that they will no longer be my friend because I didn't vote for Hillary. It wasn't like I was arguing with them. I was just asked. And I responded that I voted for a third party. I was told by two separate people that I am responsible for the destruction of this country and for the fiasco that occurred. These were good friends. Or so I thought.
Apparently tolerance is a one way street...
I'm just amazed anyone could ever dislike a person based on their political beliefs.

Well, to be fair, we are called the United States of America. Not the United Citezens of America. The voting system exists this way so that Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, etc. don't determine the path for the country. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. But there are states like Alaska who have a small population that actually do a lot for our country in terms of resources and what have you.
The system didn't "favour" him. Apparently, he campaigned more effectively than his opponent. Those were the rules of the game when the candidates started. It's like one team complaining that they scored more points in the World Series, even though they lost more games.
With all of that said, I didn't vote for Trump (or Hillary). I actually do subscribe to the notion that they are both equally as... off, just in different ways. But yeah. The nation is rather divided. Politics are becoming more and more divisive and I think this is sad place for our country.
As passionate (or annoying lol) as I can get sometimes I try to do my best to not slam down on individuals. My issues are with bad ideals and lack of thought in general. Like the point you made above, no one's mind has ever been changed by being shouted down. I have friends and family on all sides and life would be very miserable if I did nothing but shut people out because of politics.
This particular election has got people pumped up in general and emotions are high. People (like me, not sure if you noticed) have strong opinions on Trump. It's good that some people have hope but what the fuck has Trump done to earn that hope? He was a nightmare of a man BEFORE he became president. So yeah, guess we'll see what happens.
