Literotica Forum Update: Share Your Feedback, Issues & Requests

This update is horrible, I'm getting emailed thread instant updates when it should only be daily. Hell I still can't update my profile location.

Everything is horribly slow, a clumsy update that wasn't needed. Makes me less likely to use this site in the future

You can completely restrict your pubic profile so that noone can see it, which is a great privacy tool. I'm still irked about the following feature being so public and the functionality of buddies -> followers not being at all the same. I get why it had to go that way, but a lot of people are going to make a lot of assumptions about those lists. I definitely didn't expect that list to ever become public knowledge.

Can I request we go back in time before this change?
The "Watched" threads fail to work as well as Subscribed threads did, mostly to do with it going to the new content.
I hate the fact that I have to do two things instead of one to go to the most recent post, and even then the "Jump to New" button fails.
It's sending me back to January most times, and these are threads I had read or marked as read since right before the update.
Also, previously, I could just click a button before entering the thread to go to the most recent content.
I didn't have to go into the thread to find the "Jump to new" button.
The font difference between threads you've read and ones with new content isn't visually different enough, making it hard to even tell which ones have new stuff.
Why is the avatar in a circle? Who the hell does that? I know that's not specific to Lit, it's just ugly.
I can't mark individual threads as read, at least not from what I can see. It only wants to mark the entire folder as read.

Just gotta ask, did you pick this forum software because you thought it was good or because it was cheap.
It gives me impressions of the later.

Yes you can, but you have to do it on the main/story side. That will carry over here now.

As has been explained, it WAS needed. Very badly. VBulletin was years out of date, insecure from the Admin side and very difficult to manage or update. You remember those outages in recent months, don't you? The mass loss of posts a few weeks back? That was VBulletin and the associated database failing.

It's a new database. It has to learn and will catch up with you, but it might take a few days.

Xenforo is the premier forum software on the web right now, commanding around 50% of forums, whereas VBulletin has dropped to under 10%. The other main package now is IPB, Invision Power Board and I flat out guarantee you'd really hate that one.

Anyone has the same problem ??
There are a couple of threads stating that the site you linked from has taken action to block hotlinking which is why you're getting the 'could not be passed' error. The paste probably shouldn't work either though.

How do you tell WHEN a person is or was on line last? I'm sure I am looking right at that feature!???

Change always sucks - but I think I can deal with it so far here.

I am using various blogs from BDSMLR and post in many forums incl. this one for years. Recently, ONLY this forum does NOT display anything hot-linked from of those blogs. BDSMLR does NOT prohibit hot linking as far as I know. Its a mystery. Thanks for your answer.

Well ....

Saw this on the bdsmlr site today (2/16/2022):
-------------------
ANNOUNCEMENT:

We are banning image hotlinking to reduce the load on our servers. If you were blocked but you think you shouldn't be, please get in touch with us via chat or Support.
-------------------
What they refer to as 'Support' is at:

https://bdsmlr.zendesk.com/hc/en-us

Guess that just makes official what many of us had noticed in the last couple of weeks.

Well done guys, you’ve found the quickest, most efficient way to kill your own website.
Hey, I know, let’s “upgrade” to a new UI, and make it as unfamiliar as possible with zero communication.
The dickhead that came up with this idea should be give employee of the month, as they’ll be the only one left soon.
Congratulations on shooting your own foot.

This is a significant and long overdue upgrade and improvement. Nearly all other forums I visit have now gone to this Xenforo platform, dumping the long out of date and insecure VBulletin.

Good. They were too long in many cases.
Under different circumstances, I would agree with you that many Signatures, including my previous one, were too long but we were not given another pragmatic choice.

As the Profile feature in the Forums was broken and people could not edit their profiles, many of them had no alternative but to put their profile details in their signatures unlike in the Main Literotica Profile which can be edited.

The update does not seem to have fixed the problem as we still cannot edit our forum profiles.

I know that. I was a lurker before becoming a member. Even then, I couldn't see the profiles. Furthermore, if you think that share button right on the top of the post does not help that behavior, you are mistaken. And as @GoingBackToBed very well said, now it seems more like a social media site. No longer a "membership club". It was nice to come to a place that didn't have those features. This goes even for the "followers" and "likes". I don't know, maybe that's just me and I am wrong. Carry on.
jaFO, you are a man of few but arrogant words as you lack compassion, sympathy and empathy particularly for the women here who bare their souls in the Amateur Pic Feedback thread.

As Orchidea73 (as well as other brave and intelligent women) has correctly and forcefully pointed out, if you still hold the erroneous opinion that the Share This Post button at the top right-hand side of each post which enables them to be shared with social media sites does not facilitate abuse and does not invade a person's privacy, then you are unquestionably mistaken.

If you still absurdly disagree, I offer you the following challenge:

Post several links to full-frontal naked photos of yourself including showing your face in each of them in the Amateur Pic Feedback thread and then all the women who post in that thread can share them on social media sites to see what your reactions will be.

You are loose with words and unwanted advice but you lack the guts to do it.

Prove me wrong if you dare.

There is now an "Install the app" option in the navigation menu? Is this an actual Lit app or a skinned version of the message board software?

I can learn new functions and will try things out. There does seem to be loss of functions on older devices, so suggest a notice on the minimum level of iOS, Android, Windows build etc that supports functionality.

Privacy settings should migrate as always private by default. Public should be by opt in, not opt out. It's 2022, we've moved on from "We didn't know".

The share button... this is a deal breaker. You don't make it easier for people to do this. A registered member always had the ability to copy paste, right click save, etc but then using them elsewhere becomes a liable act outside of purpose. Enabling this through a share button is giving people permission to do this, outside of intent, and the tool to do it in bulk. Please remove this function.

The XenForo share button does the exact same thing as the previous "Email this Page" share button on the vBulletin forum that has been here for over a decade. It doesn't share any information other than a link to a post or thread, just like the one on vBulletin did.

The issue with the photo thumbnails showing for unregistered users should be resolved now. Please let me know if you see any attachment thumbnails that are still being shown to unregistered users.

The XenForo share button does the exact same thing as the previous "Email this Page" share button on the vBulletin forum that has been here for over a decade. It doesn't share any information other than a link to a post or thread, just like the one on vBulletin did. It's the same as copying and pasting a link from your browser into a Tweet, for example.

There is never any content loaded to or from any social media site unless someone decides to click one of the icons to open that site in another browser window to share a link. We could consider removing some of the sites listed (who doesn't hate FB these days), but the link feature is what has always allowed Lit authors and others to link to specific threads and posts easily. We can't remove the ability to link to posts/threads since many of them are resources for authors, etc.

Thanks for the continued feedback and reports! :)
It's 2022, "We didn't know" is no longer a valid defence. What is your position on the misuse of the share function and any malicious sharing of posts, outside of your author reference sharing?
