Watched the finale of SG: Atlantis yesterday (thank God for DVR!!), and I was surprised at the entire plot line. Seems like they are following in the footsteps of other series that ended on Sci-Fi, in that you have some kind of ultimate inescapable dilemma, which all gets cleaned up in the last 5-10 minutes. I don't know where I'm going with this, but I was expecting something "better" from this one...

Man, sounds like a Dean Koontz novel; GREAT set-up, and then everything is revolved in 10 pages.

Man, sounds like a Dean Koontz novel; GREAT set-up, and then everything is revolved in 10 pages.

You know, that's what I've always disliked about Koontz. He builds and builds, and then sews everything up in a nice, neat package. It seems his editor contacts him to say he's past deadline, and that's when he ties up all the loose ends.

EXACTLY! The only one that hasn't done that I've read is 'Dark Rivers of the Heart' and it's NOT a horror novel. It's a neat thriller about an ex special ops guy who gets involved in a major government conspiracy.

Of course, Twilight Eyes didn't end properly at all. The main characters were shipped off somewhere else, assuming new identities, to fight again another day... Good idea, actually, except that he followed the same pattern to get them away...

Of course, other authors do the same thing. I have read some John Saul, and he tends to round things up rather quickly as well.

Too true. Sigh. I like Stephen King but after a while it was getting to be a bit too easy to go 'ah, here's the apocalyptic ending coming up where we look upon the conflict between God and Satan'.

Exactly. Which is why I went back to science fiction and fantasy. I can read an involved account of an encounter, and not have it be truncated by the author's desire to move the story along...

Exactly. Which is why I went back to science fiction and fantasy. I can read an involved account of an encounter, and not have it be truncated by the author's desire to move the story along...

Have you read Lovecraft? The Cthulhu stuff can be fun, although he's like 30s old-school so the writing style can be on the 'clunky' side.

There have been a few Cthulhu statues released that look REALLY cool... but I have nightmares that if I get them they're gonna start moving or glowing. chuckle.
