I teach martial arts 6 days a week and on the seventh I usually travel to study with various of my teachers. Currently in several states, New Jersey being the most organized, our industry is under attack by those who want to regulate it.
Do they want to regulate it because of the violent nature of the martial arts?
No. They want to regulate it because of out all of the thousands of instructors in the states, they have two cases of pedophilia or attempted pedophilia. But it is just a ploy, just incrementalism.
The forces of censorship are going after this industry first because it is so small and lacking the resources to fight back.
And just like the seatbelt laws, and many other intrusions in our life, the forces of censorship begin by making the world safe for children.
Once they have precedent, then they move on to dance schools, little league, etc.
Instead of simply puting the onus on parents, the burden gets placed on the industry.
[Parents are the key and the problem. I have never been asked to provided credentials. People choose thier child's activity based on convienience and price and often do not even hang around to see what goes on in the dojo, dojang, or kwoon. I also want to point out that the parent is also under attack in our society and the forces of big government increasingly want to step in and take over the responsibility of parenting.]
So you see, once a few victories are chalked up in the name of stopping pedophiles, which of course, everyone wants to do, it's just a natural, gut reaction to anyone who is or has been a parent, then it becomes easier and easier to go after bigger industries and more freedoms.
I can see the handwriting on the wall which is why I say they will use the stories of one of the heroes of the board against the board despite anyone's protestations of innocence. Once the forces are set in motion, they take on a life of thier own, because to argue for freedom of speech, thought, and art will be characterized as an assault on the children of America.
To be a defender of this site will be to become a de facto pedophile.
