Laurel um, Question here

Siren someone figured out while you were gone that if you place a space in front of a person's name, it will and can be used, Angel was trolled up and down the Board one day/night by someone doing just this.

I really don't think there's anything that can be done about it. But if people pay close attention to the Registered persons name (ie Title) versus the "guest" name, I think that most of us know when it is actually the registered user or the "Troll".

I don't agree with it either, but it doesn't mean it will stop unfortunately.

Yeppers, I explained how it was done........
It should be abolished but like you said, I dont think anything can be done about it.

Sad but true Mistress, Remember when it happened the first time? I was so confused about the whole deal and I KNEW Angel wouldn't have been saying the things that this person was.

Oh well, I guess it's another thing to overcome.

BTW, How are you Mistress? :)

The sig lines, avatar, attitude--those all give it away too--Siren, seeing anything with your name and not your compellingly creative picture is obviously a fake.

Very true Blondie gal

:p

Atleast nobody can re-register using a board members existing name. Tried it awhile ago using the "leaving a space" trick and the board wouldn't let me register again as Renegade. Just wanted to check if it could be done. Fortunatly, it doesn't seem it can be done without changing the spelling slightly.

As for the quoting problem, one way to get around that is for people to edit the quote so that it reads as "guest" or whatever instead of the members name. That's one way, since I don't think there's any real way to get around this without turning off the "guest" option. And that's something Laurel's said before she wouldn't do.

For Laurel to read

:p

HEY LAUREL............

:p

Glad you managed to wait all of 15 minutes before you bumped it up to bump it up again :D

I'm sorry, Laurel's unavailable right now.

May I help you? :D

OMG Arggghhhhhhhhhhhh

:p

There are thousands of Lit members with spaces in their names. We cannot disallow spaces. It is possible that there may be a way to modify the script to make it not allow a space at the end of a username, or to ban spaces in guest names, but then someone will just use a period or an underline or anything else. I'll be more than happy to look into it and see if there's a workable solution, but I think the best answer for now is just to notice the "Unregistered" status of the troll.

Again, I will look into this more when I get back from running some errands. Keep on fighting the good fight against the bad trolls! :)

Laurel, Webmaster has e-mail on this problem.

Trolls suck! Great question Siren.

Now, instead of starting a whole new thread for my question here it is!

Is it possible to add a gender to the member profile. This could eliminate the male or female? threads.

Well it COULD fix the problem if people took the time to fill it out. You'll find there are a lot of people that don't actually want you to know, hence the name they have picked.

I like trying to figure out peoples gender, makes them all the more interesting to me, which in turn makes me get to know them a little better before I actually figure out their gender.

It's really me...just curious how it works. It does suck that people can do that, though. But if Laurel fixes one way they'll just find another like she said. What I wanna know, though, is how would a troll change the username. Either they have cookies disabled to start with, or they go in and manually delete them because on every computer I've used this new board on (3) I can't log out so to do this I had to delete the cookie. Which is a pain in the ass just to troll someone.

The trolls are back in town, the trolls are back in tooooooooowwwn

Is there a way that has a guest name just that:
Guest1
Guest2
Guest3
Guest4
and so on.........? Where it will automatically give a guest a name?
This way they can not type in something.
I haven't even tried to come in here as a guest, I automatically signed up, so I don't remember how it works or how it is to visit.
I hope this wasn't a stupid question, just a thought.

That is a good point white tigress

:p

I think White_Tigress is on to something here, only we don't even need the progressive numbering. Why do guest/unregistered users need to create identities for themselves? If you want to use a unique name, just register (it's easy and free). This idea would be easy to implement without making Laurel the BB cop (although I'm up for a good frisking ;) ).

I guess cats are good for something after all. :D

BigDoggie

Cats are good for something? LOL
..I won't go into that...

What you said about not needing the progressive numbering, I would think it'd have to be necessary because someone can't come in under the same username, thus the reason for people having a different number. If 5 guests come in at the same time, you'd never know one from the other if they all had the same "guest" name.

OK, Im tired... I'm rambling..sorry.
