Laundry

Live by yourself, it cuts down on the laundry!!! Sometimes I wonder if it's worth running the machine just for six pairs of socks!

I wear everything at least 10-11 times before considering it launderable. I end up doing laundry maybe once every 3 months.

Doesn't it feel like no matter how much laundry you do there are a ton of loads just waiting to be done?

Anyone have any ways they organize their laundry that makes it not seem like such an insurmountable task?

Hell if I know the secret to laundry.

4 people in the house and I do laundry daily. Atleast 3 loads..

That reminds me.. the dryer buzzed.

Why yes....seperate your clothes into neat little piles according to color, douse generously with lighter fluid, light match.....

Sorry, I'm a bit on edge today.

I wait till I run out of clothes as well but the worst thing about that is the Ironing. I have 25 Business Shirts and sitting down to iron them is a real pain in the ass !!!

Yes.

I just went through every one's clothes and took anything that hadn't been worn in the past 30 days to the Salvation Army. (12 garbage bags full!) Then, I spent a week doing laundy, washing, folding, ironing, and hanging up. I wish it had actually made a difference.

I wear something half a day or less and I want it laundered.

Maybe that's my problem. :)

I do the same thing. I'll change three times a day on sometimes. Then again, I never use napkins when I eat, I blow my nose on my sleeve and I never seem to have tissues handy when I masturbate. That's probably more info than I needed to share. Sorry.

yup. i think jeans can be worn several times before they need to be washed.

I do laundry once every 10 days.........no sooner.

It makes me use a majority of my clothes and not just "favorites".

laundry is probably the easiest household chore I have. You just throw it in, add soap, take it out, throw it in the dryer & voila! Instant gratification.

Wow. There would be some screaming at my house if I only did laundry once every 10 days. I do one or two loads every day so it doesn't pile up. I ususally pop the first load in before I leave fro the gym in the morning, around 6 am.

Well, it teaches you to wear things more than ONCE. Just because you wore it does NOT mean it's dirty.

We have closets and drawers full of clothes, why do laundry more than that? Heck we could do laundry once every 15 or 20 days......and sure there might be a pile.......but it's the same as doing one or two loads a week........

Also it makes your washer/dryer more efficent to place sufficently dirty clothes in them (in quantity)............:)

Finally getting myself organized laundrywise. ('Bout the hell time, too!!!)

In answer to your last inquiry:

I bought a strip with four large hooks and hung it over the back of the bathroom door. I also bought four mesh bags in different colors - black, white, blue and red. (No room for a hamper in the bathroom, and this way, I can see what I have and how much it is piling up.

Black bag - white socks and underwear (easy to see through the netting).
White bag - colored socks and underwear (again, easy to see through the netting).
Blue bag - colored collared shirts and t-shirts
Red bag - white t-shirts

The mesh bags are easy to see how much laundry is in there, easy to grab and tote to the washer, and easy to hang back up.

I only own two white collared shirts, so they get laundered on their own.

Jeans and pants - into a laundry basket near the washer. They get laundered sperately.

Stockings - if they are re-wearable (not run, torn or snagged), they go into a small white loungerie bag hanging near the washer.

Towels - go into a laundry basket near the washing machine when ready. I try to re-use the towels as best as possible.

Dresses, skirts and jackets - basket near the washing machine.

Worst part is having to tote the wet clothes to the laundromat to dry them - my dryer blew out completely, but the washer is still well-functioning (knock wood). Wash my clothes for pennies at home and save for a new dryer, and I still get to sit around posting in my natural state until it's time to head off for the dryers - besides, I can dry everything at once within an hour, rather than having the dryer run all afternoon. (It's an hour not perusing the boards - eh.)

I just wish the neighborhood association would let me put up a clothesline - sunny Florida, it makes more sense. Must be a conspiracy by FPL, KUA, OUC and all the other power companies.

OMG. I had no idea people still sorted laundry!

Everything gets thrown into the washer at the same time. The only thing I make sure I wash seperately is my down comforter, because it weighs a ton when it's wet.

Yup. Leaned my lesson in college. Got really tired of blotchy pink socks (white socks + red shirt = disaster) and indigo blue bras (white bras + never-been-washed jeans = "dammit, not again").

It may seem retentive, but I want/need to keep my clothes looking as good as possible, especially since my finances are rather stretched at this time (just starting a new job after an extended time of underemployment, and I can't run out and buy brand new stuff all the time like I used to). Even so, I was raised to take care of things I owned - they last and look better for longer.

I have labeled baskets in the basement for sorting. The clothes usually end up at the bottom of the basement stairs.

I don't think my clothes have seen the closet or the chest of drawers more than once a month for the past 7 years. We each have our own basket in the basement for clean foldeds and then then rest are hung up on a pipe that runs next to the washer and dryer. Our bedrooms are on the second floor so that is 2 flights of stairs. Why should I carry them up?

I go down to the basement every morning and pick out my clothes for the day and dress down there.

One of my next home improvement projects is to turn the laundry area in the basement into an official closet, clothing storage place for us all. It would be much more convenient...

There. One of my biggest slob behaviors is out. I am officially saying my clothes are out of the closet.

This is the one thing I refuse to do. I don’t do laundry. I hate it. I actually pay my sister to do it. I hate. I hate it. I really hate it.
It comes from having to wash the laundry of a family of 5 at a public laundry mat at the age of ten by myself. And one of the members was a new born. After my mom had my kid sis there were complications and she was bed ridden. So my step dad would “volunteer” to do the laundry and take me along to “help”. In reality, he’d drop me off and comeback 2 hours later when he was sure I was done.

Sorry. I don’t do laundry.

One other tip - borax (e.g., 20 Mule Team Borax) is very good for laundry. I used it all the time except where I had really soft water - excellent for brightening whites, and no phosphates.

I'm sorry. What is this....or-ga-nize laundry thing of which you speak??

Once a week, I toss everythign dirty into my laundry tote, haul it to the laundromat, toss it all in a triple load washer. I use my detergent and some Oxy-Clean (Great stuff!!). I read for 30 minutes then toss it all in one dryer, on medium heat, for about 55 minutes.

I then run a couple errands, come back, and take it all home.

I know it's time to do laundry when that basket gets empty and the other gets full. ;)

I wash my underthings by hand on the evening after I wash them. They're rather too.. er.. delicate for the washing machine. So once underwear is out of the mix that leaves socks and such. My shirts are gentle wash, so that all goes into one wash, my jeans and pants are normal (socks are too), and towels/sheets are another.
