And no, thats not an ignorant question! I was asked that a lot.
I actually had problems speaking without it in, because I took my time gauging it. I started out at 14 like everyone else, then went straight to 10g, then straight to 6g [I had to have it professionally done though, so they took a tiny tiny piece of my tongue out for that] then I went to 4g for about a month, then on to 2g.

Whenever I would take my tongue ring out, it was hillarious, because I would have a lisp, because of how huge the balls were on it, it pretty much dug a little hole on top of my tongue that it rested in, as well as the roof of my mouth. Its been out for over a week now, and I'm talking normal again

My main problem was biting the barbel or the balls, and I even chipped one tooth, which SUCKED because getting it fixed was expensive - but blah. Im sort of glad its out now, come to think of it.
