I need to buy me a lap top for my trip to California. I want a decent one, but I don't want to invest a lot of money in it right now. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have a Compaq1200 and it works great. Make sure you buy an extra memory thingy tho.

Do you mind my asking what you paid for it? You can pm it to me if you'd rather.

Is Lit slow tonight, or do I just need to reboot?

Dell Latitude, works great also. Alot of memory, a large video card makes Lit easier. I got on that has a combo dial-up ether net card, very handy!

If you ever want to have some fun, Get on AIM and message DellDudeSteven, he wants you to get a dell!

I don't know very much about computers, I was proud to have mastered the off/on button. Can you use a video cam with laptops?

Yes use a USB port for a mouse and for a cam> The USB port is a rectangular port about .5 in x .125 in. Mine works great.

A video cam or a web cam? Web cams work quite well with laptops...or so I have heard. ;)

Web cam, ty. Good. I want my grandbaby to be able to see me everyday, so when I go back home I won't be a stranger. :(

And that's the only reason I'm asking about it. ;)

With the iBook and a DV cam you can edit video.

I'd like to buy me that ass. For spanking purposes only, mind you.

How much?

You might want to look at the Dell, Compaq and Gateway WWW sites. They all have "Factory Outlets" on-line where you can buy refurbs. (They come complete with all software and manuals and have full warranty.)

You can get pretty up to date machines and save a few hundred off of the regular price... It's free to look at their inventory...

Jon mentioned something about refurbs. I will pass that on to him. Thanks.

Brat, get your ass out of my thread. You're distracting people.

Personally, I'd go with the DELL also.

But if you want a cam, Sony makes one with a cam built in ...

http://www.sonystyle.com/home/item.jsp?hierc=9683x7018x9032&catid=9032&itemid=44421&type=o

It's retails for $2099

Sony has a horrible repair record though, but they're light.

Don't be afraid of factory refurbs either.

Good luck!

Thanks. The refurbs are sounding good to me. Eventually, we will invest in a much better one, as Jon continues his work on computer. But for now, the cheaper the better.

Appreciate the hint regarding Sony.

Hi April:rose: I've never done a lap dance.. wait yes I have.

I danced on a table once after many shots of tequila and even more marguerita's. Hope that image gets you through while I am gone.

Go with a Dell, may not be the best value for money, but reliabilty, and service leaves all others in their dust.

Hi, Simply...nice to catch up again.

Altho I-books are great, you'd need to learn a new OS, I'm guessing your a Windows person.
