you ever used a spermicide in addition to or besides what comes already on a condom? A friend of mine has been considering useing it and when she checked her local drug store they didn't carry it. I am of no help since I don't use it and honestly never looked for it.

yep.

You can get spermicide - at least here in the US in many forms.

I find that nonoxyl 9 (I think that's the name of the most common spermicide) tends to irritate me a LOT, so I've only tried that sort of thing once. I believe my partner got it at CVS or some such.

Here's a site that might offer some info -

Same here. I also noticed Planned Parenthood doesn't have any condoms with spermicidal lubricant anymore. There's a lot of concern about the reactions women experience, and there has been some evidence it actually increases the risk of STD transmission. If your friend's that concerned, she might want to check into the Pill, ring, or another form of birthcontrol.

You might suggest she call Planned Parenthood, her doctor or her local pharmicist for suggestions about what to use.

Just thought of anothe possible place for an answer.....she might check on her bf's condom box and see if they have a web site or a toll free number to call........then contact them for a suggestion about what to use.

Please let us know what solution she comes up with in case this question comes up again. Also, I am curious to see what she finds out.

Calling PP, her doctor, or pharmacist is a great suggestion. Also, if she's bound and determined to use spermicide, it's available online at places like drugstore.com. At some drugstores, it may be behind the pharmacy counter, so she should ask the pharmacist. She can always call and ask if they have it first. This page is very informative:

Actually the suggestion came from her PCP who admittedly didn't use it but assumed she could get it at a local drug store. She is going the condom with extra spermacide route because due to a interfearance with her other medications the pill, shot, or patch are not options, and since she has no kids an IUD is not an option.. she ruled out diaphrams since they are so messy and hinder any spontanaity. I did suggest ordering it online and it just seems if people use it it shouldn't be that hard to find.. but I guess it is.
