Too many people forget that their personal opinion doesn't determine how offensive a word is, it's the people that hear it that decide how offended they are. You can rationalize away the whole "It's just a word" till you're blue in the face, but if you've pissed someone off, rational is not what they want.

As for Richards, I have to agree with Queersetti on his last post. It comes from somewhere, the same way it did with Mel Gibson. Alcohol and anger just don't cut it as far as excuses go in my book.
