I don't believe it is an accurate respresentation of the majority of white Americans either.

But I can understand how Hooper can feel that it is. I am sure he's more aware of the amount of racial animosity directed towards blacks than either you or I could be, because he is black and we are not. Your friends and mine may not be racist, but voices of hostility will always sound louder.

I'm already well aware of those 5 things. But I thought we were speaking within the confines of this thread, this board. Let's just use whatever historical events best suit our own arguments. Go back 50, 60 years? Why not go back 200? 500? 1000? All of history?

A better comparison, to make the case that he isn't a racist, would be to take a look at what one might drag out expressly to hurt another person. The low blow.

"Fuckwad" isn't a low blow. It doesn't cut to the core, it doesn't give the recipient pause. Even if only to pretend it doesn't hurt.

Let us say that you are my ex-lover and I am so angry I have lost control. I want to hurt you. I can call you a racial epithet... or I could maybe tell you that you are shitty in bed and that I always faked my orgasms. That would cut you to the bone, even if I don't mean it.

"Kike" is insulting someone because of a group they belong to. It doesn't target just that person, but all members of that group.

I think there are a lot of people who are bigoted, at least to some extent or another. I've seen nothing that would make me think whites are any worse than any other race (or however you want to define groups of people sharing similar physical characteristics).

I think his statement is as "racist" as anything else in this thread. For someone so attuned to racism, I figured you would see that and discuss that instead of discussing who said what.

Btw, it's my puppy in his halloween costume. He was a skeleton although someone thought he was supposed to be a turtle.

I think we have had this discussion before, but I don't buy into that whole "reclaiming the word" crap that kyle stated earlier.

If you call me a kike, you are insulting yourself by using the word, not me as the jewish target. It has nothing to do with the rest of society, it has to do with each individual taking the power out of the word by not reacting in a way that gives the word power.
