Sounding more like Ayn Rand than the third-greatest scorer in NBA history, retired Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant penned a letter to his 17-year-old self, telling him to give relatives tools and opportunities rather than just showering them with money and gifts.
In the somewhat bizarre, somewhat refreshing composition, Bryant warns his younger self to “figure out a way to invest in the future” of his family and friends.

“So you buy them a car, a big house, pay all of their bills. You want them to live a beautiful, comfortable life, right? But the day will come when you realize that as much as you believed you were doing the right thing, you were actually holding them back,” the five-time NBA champion, 18-time All-Star, and two-time Olympic gold medalist cautions....

This is why Obama and the Democrats took the wrong road when they used pen and phone to expand welfare and make it "friendlier," well, friendlier to Democrat voters...

;) ;)

Darryl Dawkins bought his momma a house . . . and she lost it for back taxes.

His baby momma's sister told me this.

He didn't spring for another one.

Of course, the money was a lot less st00pid in those daze . . . .

One of my teachers told me something that I never forgot.

"Don't teach for free. Americans do not respect free. They believe that the more you pay for something, the more value they are getting."

Of course, he was also ruthless. If his students were attending the tournaments hosted by other instructors, then he was not maximizing their discretionary income spending and he would figure out a way to get more out of his students...

My algebra 2 teacher told a similar tale.

He said that, when he was in college, he and his buddies got broken TVs, fixed them, and charged $25 selling them. They sold none. So they raised the price to $125 and couldn't keep them in stock.

Of course, that was back when one could actually fix a TV, and they weren't yet a disposable commodity.

And this guy may have been full of shit, so who knows. High school kids are st00pid, right? So you can tell them anything???

One of my business magazines (specializing in martial arts) back in the day had a piece/interview with Ahnold...

When he and his brother came to the States, their family profession was bricklaying. Well, they went into business and undercut everyone on prices and were quickly on their way out of business. In a bit of entrepreneurial inspiration, they hit upon a new idea, jack up the prices and sell themselves as specialty European bricklayers and soon the thrivin' was back in Santa Rio...

I've had several antique shop owners admit to me, once I got to know them, that it's easier to sell antiques with a high price than with a low one.

Low prices only work in mass production.

Econ100 or Mktg100 -level stuff.

Seeing as everyone here has multiple Degrees, i shouldn't have to say it...how perplexing!

No J.V. team today- had to break out the frosh-soph squad.

Ah, the apocryphal "European Bricklayer" fable. Ahnuld has been peddling that particular fable for years.

The truth is, Arnold und his weightlifting partner Franco Columbu (not his "brother", btw), changed their company name to European Bricklaying but still didn't get much business.

Then the February 1971 earthquake rocked the Los Angeles area, and bricklaying rates went through the roof for two solid years as people needed their homes repaired. Since most bricklayers were contractually obligated to work on sites already, Ahnuld and Franco quadrupled their rates and prospered.

Not much business sense there.....more likely a case of bein' in the right place at the right time.

Ignoring for a moment that welfare had been made "unfriendly" in the past and didn't work you are mixing subjects here and frankly assuming Kobe even did write this it seems even he missed the point to a large degree.

You mean Ayn Rand, world class hypocrite and welfare queen?

A thread about Kobe and the prairie nigger finds a way to bash obama.
