Kingmaker

"Yes... Okay..." Vayah calmed a bit, but her eyes shined up at Prince Blackwood. "But... Tell me, please, you're not like him?" She held her breath. "Please?" She repeated with a tiny gasp.

Kali @ the bar

By the time Kali realized it had gotten so quiet she was half way through the chicken, her claws latched into its haunches are her lips glistening with the juices. If it hadn't been for the rather loud (and impressive) belch she might have been blissfully unaware of it all. As it was, the very sound of his man's voice annoyed her. She couldn't help but wonder just what his face looked like without any skin and perhaps just what that peeled skin tasted like (she was just mildly curious about that latter bit). While the catfolk wasn't the brightest or most personable, she knew better than to start clawing out those fine dressed humans; they always brought unwanted friends with big sharp swords.

With a low rumbling growl Kali turned her back on the Prince and continued her meal. She didn't really give two shakes what he was talking about, even if it was no doubt important and relating to the reason she had originally came here for. He was loud and stupid and too important to maul, so she ignored him. Her tail swished busily above her all too firm backside and as she leaned on the counter of the bar she gave a rather tempting display of said asset. There were too many people here and too many conversations going on, so instead of being cordial and replying to the man or even acknowledging Chem's departure she continued to feast; intent to gnaw on a bone or two.

Sebastian, to Gerade

Sebastian quickly stepped back and said, "Of course, your Majesty! Wouldn't dream of grovelling, my lord!"

That bloody little girl just got right in the way! Who taught a five year old to speak like that? Or maybe she wasn't a little girl. Sebastian had known a halfling with a knack for pickpocketing who was about that size.

So she was a native? Well, if the natives were all that naive, this would be easier than he thought. Didn't she realise? This WAS a land grab - as onvious a land grab as one could imagine. They were all here for the same reason, which wasn't bring civilisation to the masses. That was just a line to get into the Prince's good graces, after all. Smythe was here for the same thing as almost everyone else: money, and lots of it. Set yourself up in your own little fiefdom and live the high life for the rest of your years. How could that sound bad to anyone?

Sebastian leaned back against the var and watched the Prince pass by.

"Going to have to rethink my strategy," he muttered, before patting the knight on the back.

"See that, sir?" he said cheerily. "We're in the Prince's good books. You want to be a king yourself, you're going to need strong allies.

"Speaking of which," he added, offering his hand. "Sebastian Smythe, at your service."

Kumio raised an eyebrow at the sound of thunder and the appearance of the strange prince. Yet another prince in the tavern, and this one was trying to show off his rank. She glanced for a moment at the ones who decided to kneel for the new prince, shaking her head a little. The only royalty she would kneel for would be her clan Master, a king, or higher rank.

She listened to the conversation between Prince Sabin and the others in silence. She had come with just one plan in mind, but perhaps she could change her plans while she was in the land. After, extending her clan's control into the new lands wouldn't be looked down upon.

She pulled back a little as the table was thrown, but she continued sipping her tea at the same time. It wasn't the first time she had every had a large object fly past her, and she doubted it would be the last. Satisfied things seemed to be getting back to normal, she turned her attention to the bar.

She gave a little smile seeing that Kali had almost finished her current chicken, signaled for another one. Another whole chicken appeared quickly in front of the catfolk, steaming and hot.

"Eat up and enjoy your fill."

@ Sebastian

" Gerade Almont, of Mehato, Taldor. Pleased to meet you." He says in response to this Sebastian. The young noble looked at the man and than to the others and his eye brow arched in curiousity.

"Are you wishing to gather a group and head south good sir, if you are i will happily lend my sword arm,I seek a fallen friend in the vast lands to the south if i can find her than I can properly put her to rest"He said as he released his hand and than takes another sip with his wine, having witnessed many of the people here. He had about giving up, but now he was secretly rejoicing with the possibility of heading south. Soon he will find the body of his beloved Jaleesa, and his Goddesses' faith will spread, and soon the temple he was charged with through his meditations to found and let flourish.

The antics of the sycophants was amusing, it was almost like he was back home thanks to all the song and dance, though his time in the courts didn’t have any small folk throwing tantrums, while not as amusing, it was useful to see, always good t know the intentions of others ahead of time. The prince on the other hand was exactly what he had been expecting, they had both gone to a few events over the years, but with Arkhan being only the adopted son of a minor noble, no actual personal meeting had occurred. He made a note to try and make such a thing happen before he left, his father hadn’t been the most supportive of his plan to head out, and hearing his sons name on the lips of the prince would be a lovely kick in the old mans shins.

“I always liked that one” he said as the prince left, mainly to himself, then turned to the bald knife thrower “my legs hurt, I'm going to go find somewhere to sit, if that mark of yours does get in to a fight, I'll put a gold on the other guy.” With that he took his helm and cup of water and made his way to the first table he could find with a free seat, grinning inwardly when it turned out to have more than one rather fetching woman present, and had just had a whole chicken delivered.

“I don’t suppose I'd be lucky enough to have found an unclaimed seat” he said as he pulled out the chair, making no move to take it until someone approved the intention “not to mention an open table.”

Everybody

Prince Sabin turned fuming for a moment and then shook his head. "Gayles, outside right now." The three took a moment to look at each other each tossing Vayah a quick glance before forcing a smile and walking out with their heads held as high as they could manage.

"As for the rest of you, those of you who do wish to ask my favor you can come along and I'll deal with you individually or one of my aides will. (PM) otherwise I suggest you get to bed since you'll need to sleep off your stupor and head out early in the morning."

That was enough that most of the patrons started exiting the bar, after just a few minutes it was down to the half dressed redhead, her orcs having gone outside, the Creotia, Chem and Bunker.

Night is officially declared, if everything works properly I'll have the first post of morning up late afternoon or early morning.

Vayah was stunned by the silence she received from the Gayles. Prince Sabin commanded them outside and they all just looked at one another, then to her with a quick glance and forced smiles. She fixed her eyes on them as they left, equal measures pleading and proud, but they left all-the-same. Left her standing there, wondering... She sunk down and pulled her knees into her chest scanning the nearly empty room, tears welling up in her eyes.

She pushed her face against her knees and cried quietly for a moment, feeling lost, but recovered on her own, regaining her fierce strength of will. She got up, sniffed at the remaining few, bundling up a few bones in a skin from the cold meal, leaving the Gayles the lion's share for Blackwoods dogs.

She left the bar with the bundle of bones for Xax, returning to the quiet place she'd had him stay and fed him the bones. He snapped and crunched them happily as she made up a warm spot to sleep. Xax was finished by the time she'd beded down and came over to stand guard over her while she slept.

She reached out and touched the roughness of his back and smiled. "Honor to you, Xax." She whispered before she drew her arm back into the warmth of her heavy furs and drifted to sleep.

Sebastian happily shook the knight's hand and struggled not to look too nervous. Oh gods, he was one of those noble ones who rode around, slaying dragons and rescuing fair maidens and the like! His sword arm better be damn good, thought Smythe, because he's otherwise set to be a total bore.

It was time to get his act together. There were plenty of potential allies here but it would all be for naught if they weren't on the same page. He leaped up onto the bar, glass in hand.

"Friends, friends!" he called out loud. "Sir Gerade and I venture forth into the Stolen lands for honour and renown! With Prince Sabin's blessing, we stride forward tomorrow the morning with confidence! But who will join us?"

He looked across the bar at the silent Oriental, the greedy catgirl and the various other misfits that sat around him and pointed at them.

"What about you? Or you?" he demanded. "Do any of you have what it takes to help us?"

" Yes, Like My dear good Sebastian has said who wishes to come seek glory and promise in a new and bold land to the south, to stop the chaos for a greater good!" Gerade, never stood but raised his glass in emphasis. he wasn't much for the overtly social features, but he naturally seemed to have a unique charisma.. or it could all just be a bit of this liquor he had been working on.

He watched Sebastian, work his mouth and charm. He was gonna have to learn more about how to command a room. He was still rough in this area, he is just coasting off his natural aura. He would soon seek to perfect his art, and do an original work, and as he thought about it his foot began to tap and he softly hummed to him self, as Sebastian worked.

Kumio yawned for a moment as she watched Kali for a few moments longer before her attention was taken by something else. She raised an eyebrow at the prince's last few words before he decided to leave the tavern. She was sure if she wanted to know this prince, but she was doubtful to meet him on her own. She shook her head for a moment before finishing her tea.

She was about to get up from the bar to go to bed herself when she was stopped. The suddenness of Sabastian's hop onto the bar caught her attention. She raised an eyebrow for a moment at Gerade's mentioning of stopping greed and chaos in the new lands. She was more of the controlled chaos style, not stopping it.

"That mostly depends on your definition of help. Your reasons aren't mine, but I was planning on going in that direction myself. Now if you don't mind, I'll say goodnight."

She placed a fist at chest level in front of her, and covered it with her other hand. She gave a slight bow before making her way up to bed.

(on phone)

Gerade had slept horribly, last thing he remembered was seeing the Tian leave for bed. Her got up and donned his armor. He than continued to get his gear secure, Once ready he went down stairs.

The place looked awful in the light, but he didn't care right now as he smelt the aroma of coffee and walked over to drop a copper nib." Coffee Please"

A simple tin cup was filled by some pretty raven haired lass. She gave him a wink and a soft kiss. Than she wishpered " Thanks for escorting me to my room last night, I thoroughly enjoyed my self" she blushed. This made him blush as he than took a sip if the coffee and begins to pray softly in Celestial.

" Sheltn Goddess of Love and beauty, I thank you for the beauty of the morning and the unexpected revelations it brings"

Morning's light crept in through the shelter of tree's surrounding Vayah, making her scrunch her nose and yawn, shifting in her furs. She kept her eyes closed but was fully awake in seconds, listening to the sounds of nature all around her.

After some time she finally rose from her furs, the chill morning air making her shiver. Xax stirred as well and Vayah reached down to touch him reasuringly. "Peace, friend, we leave shortly. I trust you will be on your best behavior?" She asked, teasingly. Xax cracked his mighty jaw open, showing off his teeth making her smile and laugh softly, patting his head.

"Yes, we'll get you some food." She said lightly as she turned to bundle her furs up and pack them away. Xax rested, waiting until it was time to leave.

They set out for the tavern and along the way, managed to get Xax a satisfying meal of small game without delaying their arrival too much.

Vayah brought him right up to the tavern this time, but instructed him to remain outside, on his best behaviour, trusting in him and hoping others would have the sense to not provoke him. Even still, she would keep an ear out for a commotion, just in case.

She went up to the barkeep and offered a fine bear skin in return for a breakfast big enough for up to seven people to be made. She hoped it would be ready and still warm for the Gayles or any others with ears to hear her plea for a peaceful, responsible aclimation into the stolen lands.

to Vayah

" Good morning my lady, i would love to join you your morning feast" he pauses and takes a drink of his coffee and smiles as he holds out his hand so she could reach it and shake it

"Where are my manners, I am Sir Gerade Almont of Mehato Taldor Knight of the Purple Rose, follower of Shelyn the Eternal Rose. i am pleased to meet a beautiful creature such as your self, I must ask for atleast your name my dear lady, so i can address you like a proper lady" he says as he smiles letting the coffees steam rise form his cup and holds his hand out so the smaller creature can shake his hand, if it be her custom.

Vayah stood up on the seat of her chair as the man paused to drink his coffee, returning his smile. Having watched others she knew enough to place her hand in his and did so as a sign of good faith, curious to see what he would do.

"And I am Vayah. If you have ears to hear and eyes to see, then you are most welcome at this table..." She took a deep breath, preparing to speak his name as he had presented it. "Sir Gerade Almont of Mehato, Taldor knight of the Purple Rose, follower of Shelyn, the Eternal Rose."

She smirked a little when he called her beautiful. "You have eyes that see it would seem. And that you have come to my table would suggest you have ears to hear. I had my doubts that anyone here did. Please, sit and share this meal with me. Perhaps others will join in time..." She looked toward the doors hopefully for a moment then pushed a seat out for him with a dainty foot.

Kali

Kali awoke with a snort and opened her eyes quickly. That sleek frame shifted and stirred as she slowly push up into a sitting position. She came to straddle the branch she found big enough to support her for the night. Her feline ears twitched and flicked a few loose leaves from her hair. For a moment she simply sat there as her mind slowly tried to catch up to the rumble in her stomach. Her claws held tightly to the tree limb between her toned thighs.

After a few long moments she released a loud yawn and proceeded to climb down the tree with skill ina precision. Climbing was second nature to the feline, the razor sharp claws on her hands and feet ensured she rarely lost her grip. Once she got a few feet towards the forest floor she simply hopped down with a huff, her ample endowments jostling wildly with the fierce movement. With another loud yawn she hoisted her gear over her left shoulder and strode back towards the building she had feasted in the night previously. The thought of sleeping in a lice and flea infested bed was never one Kali enjoyed, she never had a problem with 'roughing it' as the weaker races loved to call it. The catfolk strode into the common room with a causal glance about it. Few had roused this early in the morning, no one that she had talked to the previous night. Two curious creatures did catch her interest though, her nostrils flared at the scent of the massive amount of food that was being piled near the tiny woman. Without another thought Kali made her way towards the two even as they made their introductions. She didn't bother, instead she leaned down to give the pint sized woman a curious sniff.

She had a familiar enough scent, someone who know how to handle themselves in the wild. Kali let out a little rumble from deep in her throat and let her gear flop down onto the floor near.

“S'this seat taken?” She asked even as she tugged out a chair and deposited herself into with little grace and less tact. “That's alot of food for someone so small...” Her eyes were big and saucer-like as she let them linger over the bountiful banquet before them.

Vayah turned her attention toward the cat-bred woman, lifting her chin to the beautiful creature without the slightest hint of shyness, grinning up at her. She could already tell that they both shared the guiding principal of nature's unspoken law and took to her with ease, but remained mindful of Gerade's presence as well. She motioned for him to sit and partake while speaking to the cat-woman.

"It is now, and by it's rightful owner." Vayah said with an open, even playful smile. "Yeah, it is, and it would be a shame for it to go to waste. I would be happy to share, if you would be willing to join my pride?" Vayah framed her explination in a way she hoped would appeal to the feline's sensibilities.

Instead of using the bed, Kumio slept on the floor with a blanket beneath her and a pillow. The floor didn't bother her, as she was used to sleeping on hard surfaces. She woke up at dawn, feeling refreshed for the day. After taking a few moments to wake up, she finished by taking a cold bath to perk her up.

After the bath she took a little bit of time to practice her forms and breathing exercises. It wouldn't be good for her to not be in her best fighting form when she needed to be. She didn't think she would get in a fight very soon, but this was new territory she was getting into. After an hour, she made her way down to the tavern. She wore her unflattering traveler outfit and left her white hair undone, the white strands flowing down to the middle of her back.

The tavern was quiet, but she expected that for the morning. As she ordered a cup of tea, she took a moment to see who was gathered there. It did surprise her a little that only a small number of people from the rowdy crowd was gathered, especially after the announcement by the loud Prince before everyone headed off to bed. She did smile a little seeing some familiar faces seated at a table.

She picked up her cup of tea and made her way over to the table where Vayah, Gerade, and Kali were seated.

"Room for another?"

" Its Gerade, Vayah," he says smiling as he takes his seat and smiles " and thank you humbly for sharing such an illustrious meal, and Welcome, my fine feline friend to the table, I am Sir Gerade Almont, of Maheto, Talador "

He looked at the ew arrive and nodded as he pulled out his dagger and took up, a simple piece of sausage and some eggs and some bread. He was trying to get to the food to put it on a simple piece of cloth as he sipped on his coffee

Vayah looked up at the sweet faced, white haired woman and nodded. She didn't know what to make of her, being that she was very hard to read, but if she was approaching them after having witnessed the scene from last night, she was welcome at the table.

"Of course." Vayah said politely, nodding her head, feeling heat rise in her cheeks. "There's plenty of room still." She was surprised and pleased, she really hadn't expected anyone to approach her table at all.

She felt a subtle pang of loss though, that the Gayles weren't around to share her meal yet. But she held out hope.

She leveled her sparkling blue eyes on Sir Almont. "Gerade." She repeated with a sharp nod, noting how he must prefer to be addressed. She took a cue from him and started dishing herself up some fresh fruit, looking at the other two, inviting them to dig in as they pleased with a little tilt of her head and an open grin.

Sleeping on the road was a pleasant affair for Arkhan, his wagon had been designed with comfort in mind as well as combat potential, the roll up mattress wasn’t the best bed he had slept on, but it was good enough, and he knew it wasn’t infested with something foul, which is what really matters in the end. It didn’t take long for him to dress and be out in the sun, his bronze armour catching the light beautifully, and since he had decided to forgo his helm today, so did his blond hair, all in all he didn’t look like he was more than an hour removed from the courts with such pristine equipment.

He waved and nodded to some of the early risers outside as he went, notably the ones he had met the night before, but also people he didn’t know, it was never a bad idea to let people know you were friendly, even if you intend to stab them in the back, hell, especially if you intend to stab them in the back.

As he walked in to the tavern he swept his eyes across the room, far less crowded than last time, and much nicer for it. He quickly identified the best group to slip himself in to, the spectacle of a paladin from last night, his kind were easy to use and useful to have. The opinionated little one who had pissed off the prince last night, Sabin may have been one of the better nobles to deal with, but seeing one so put off was always amusing. The other two at the table he knew little of, both were quite... Exotic, to say the least, he suspected the white haired one was from the Jade lands, she acted very reserved and guarded though, so it was hard to get anything more from her with such little interaction. The cat on the other hand, struck him as incredibly straightforward, he had heard of her kind in stories, beautiful cat creatures of formidable physical skill, and that’s what he saw in her, though he would be lieing if her looks weren’t throwing him off his game a little.

After the second of thoughtful recap, he made his way over to the group, he hadn’t seen all of them together last night, so he suspected they weren’t too insular “Well, if it isn’t our little activist” he said with a smile has he got closer, bowing slightly to Vayah once he was next to the closest unoccupied chair “its rare to see someone get under a bluebloods skin so well and get away with it, it quite impressive to watch.” he pulled out the chair, but paused before sitting, instead looking over the group “you all wouldn’t mind another at your table would you? I have more than enough coin for a round or two.”

Sebastian

Sebastian woke up under a bed. That wasn't surprising; it had happened before in his many misadventures.

That it wasn't his bed was a problem, though. He crawled slowly towards the door, trying to keep his rapier from scraping across the floor too much, and kept crawling until he was safely by the stairs. At that point, he straightened himself up, dusted himself down and skipped down into the common room.

"Good morning, everyone!" He was pleased to see a bunch of recognisable faces gathered around one of the tables - Sir Gerade, Kumio, the cat girl whose name he lost somewhere while studying her flexibility and the midget who'd caused all that ruckus the night before. He scooped some food onto a plate and sat down, grinning.

"So, ready for a journey of excitement and adventure?" he asked, scanning the motley crew around him. These brave souls, all ready to march straight into a land of bandits, cutthroats and ne'er-do-wells.

Good thing they had him to take care of them!

Kumio smiled as she took the open seat, setting her tea on the table in front of her. She looked over the banquet of food for a moment, trying to decide on her breakfast. After a few moments she filled a plate with a mixture of fruit. Crossing her legs beneath the table for a moment, she sipped a little bit of her tea before speaking.

"At least it's quieter this morning. And my name is Kumio."

She was eating a mouthful of fruit when Arkhan approached the table. She gave a little nod to him as he sat down. She wasn't going to speak for Vayah since this was her table for the meal, so to speak. She finished her plate once and refilled it again by the time Sabastian came to the table. She raised an eyebrow as he sat himself down without really asking. She just smiled for a moment as she continued to eat.

Vayah smiled up at Arkhan as he paid her a compliment for her boldness. She nodded for him to sit with them. He was the first to acknowledge aloud that he had clearly seen her stand. "What does activist mean?" She asked him politely, sliding a plate of food his way.

As she did, Kumio pointed out the relaxed calm of the morning and introduced herself by name. Vayah looked at her with a quick nodd and mouthed her name to herself under a quiet breath as Sebastian out right bored his way in on the table and the meal.

Vayah shot him a sharp look, not the most pleased by the blytheness of his approach. "Are you deaf and blind, sir, or just thick as an ogre?" Vayah asked him quite calmly, rising in her seat at the head of the table.

"I suppose I should thank you for your disrespect though. It only brings forth my simple request of each of you. If you will favor me in my..." She looked toward Arkhan. "Activism... There are some in the lands ahead who you need not slaughter. Who would gladly bond with the outside world, if the world you bring us is one of honor. I am willing to be your guide in that way. And you are welcome at my table if you have the ears to hear my voice."

Sebastian

The food was delicious and, after an eventful night before, Sebastian was famished. He savoured every mouthful and noticed a brief smile from Kumio. Smythe gave her a playful wink. No reason not to give the girl hope, after all.

He endured Vayah's little speech, both amused and a little irritated by the small woman. But he kept a grin on his face and said, "I assure you, miss, that I am neither deaf, blind, nor thick as an ogre. But I am amazed that one so small can so easily climb upon such a high horse." He chuckled and chewed on a piece of bread before continuing.

"I have no intention of slaughter, madam. Sebastian Smythe is not in the slaughtering business, I assure you. I am a gentleman and my only aim is to eat well, drink well and live well. And if you can assure me that not all of your people are so apt to snap at a man for his mere existence, than I will gladly accept your offer." He stood as he spoke the final sentence and ended it with a bow, which seemed only appropriate at this time of day. He could hardly kiss her hand; he didn't know where she'd been.

Sebastian sat back down. "I hope we can travel out soon. There is much to be done and I have an important mission to accomplish in the Stolen Lands. But I will be no hanger-on. I possess talents that may prove fruitful, my friends." What he didn't tell them was that his mission was to find the most beautiful wild women and put a little... civility into them, while his talents largely consisted of knowing half the bandits in the region by name.
