King H'Obama, Queen Pelosskowski & the Faithful Congress...

I think he had intentions of changing Washington and is learning that Washington will change him.

It wouldn't be the first time Americans have had an idealist achieve the highest office. JFK is the first example that springs to mind (to whom, I've observed, Obama has been compared frequently), followed by Wilson.

I helped vote Obama into office with the understanding that I doubt he would be able to achieve all of his campaign promises. There are too many in both the government and the public sector who see the objectives of his administration as too radical. Still, Obama's presidency marks a beginning, a shift away from the extremism of both the far left and far right. Once his eight years are over, I only hope we, as a nation, don't swing back along partisan lines and elevate an extremist that will do more harm than good.

It's too early in Obama's administration to assess the worthiness of its legislation. True assessment will be for historians to discern. Until then, the naysayers and "messianists" will battle it out until their tongues and fingers grow numb.

WILLIE

I recall JFK well. He wasnt universally admired, but he was loved. And he scared the shit out of everyone with his aggression. In 3 short years we had the Bay of Pigs debacle, the Cuban Missle Crisis, National Guard interventions across the South, constant conflicts with Russia, and the turmoil in Vietnam. He stirred up shit everywhere.

But he also initiated the US space program, lowered income taxes, and inspired Americans to be better than they are.

What have you been smoking Slyc?
The only person in Washington that might be further left than Obama is Pelosi!

He has already condemed himself to one term only, if only on the basis that my 1.5 year old granddaughter owes Washington $45,000 for what has happened in the first 50 days. :(

Sadly it is looking more and more like Carters second term, the worst possible outcome.

LOL. I know why you reacted this way, DP.

But comparing Obama to Carter is like comparing champagne to box chardonnay. Carter never had such a following as Obama enjoys. Perhaps, had JC run today, the media may have been more empowering. But I doubt it.

A majority brought Obama into office. Okay, so you may say, a slim majority. But that's how elections have been for the last few decades. Whatever the margin, it's the majority that wins out. And this majority -- the one that gave Obama our nation's highest office -- is not about to back down. There's too much at stake in the public and political eye. To give him only one term would be to cheat future generations of a glory figure. He deserves two terms in office, at least.

Politics these days are as much about image as they are about policy. I'm sure you have to understand that. Say what you will, post what you will, but Obama has the charisma, and he's made some bold initiatives which may or may not pan out. I'm no blind liberal who hangs onto every word our current president says and believes it to be gospel.

But politics are like religion in a way. There's a certain amount of faith involved. And my political faith compels me to believe that Obama won't be just a glory figure, but a truly great president.

If I am proved wrong, so be it. I'll take the lumps. ;)

Wow...two pretty much opposing opinions from two I respect, how to keep both as calm associates?

With a conservative in office, liberals threaten to run to Canada, with a liberal in office, conservative buy guns. Go figure.

I suggest, quietly, that external events, namely, the state of the union will determine whether this President sees a second term as even possible.

The expenditure of such great sums of money to stimulate the economy can only drag the nation deeper into debt and the increased pressure on business and corporations, will only worsen the already critical balance between government and private enterprise and widen the gap between rich and poor and continue the class warfare at an even higher level.

Image and charism may play a role, but reality is the final arbiter and I sense harsh times ahead.

Amicus...

Obama is already toast.

People are cocked in the pissed-off position because of the executive excesses on Wall Street. People know that the executives are rewarded with millions of taxpayer dollars for failure and incompetence and corruption. This is how the bailouts play in the heartland.

Obama isnt a leader, he's a butt boy and knee-pad hack for the elites. If you put Obama and Bush and Cheney in a bag, shake the bag, and dump them out...you wont know who is who.

I dont see how Obama and the Democrats can survive the 2010 election if the economy is worse, and its expected to be much worse by then.
