I feel this is needed.

Please feel free to post pleasant unpleasant things about your writing experience and to compliment your fellow Lit inhabitants.

My unpleasant experience was to find audience. I thought that's what I wanted, but I found myself starting to write for the audience rather than for myself, and enjoying the process less. I probably should have anticipated that, knowing that I'm an introvert IRL, but hindsight!

They're paying you? What in??

…Attention, I’m guessing? That’s a hell of a currency around here.

I got an off handed half compliment comment on the audio recording for the intro of The Light Between the Trees.

Good but I prefer more 'natural' voices that don't sound like they're trying to be sexy (men and women) or intriguing.

I guess I should be flattered that I sound like I’m trying to be sexy? Even if I wasn’t. I was trying to sound dark and aggressive.

On that note, the entire audio category is chock full of people who are trying to sound like something, which I feel is the purpose of voice acting. Unless, of course, they’re just naturally masturbating into a microphone… and I ain’t doing that. 🤣

I thought the same thing: "You guys are getting paid?"

I don't know that this is unpleasant outside the often-happening inability of me to finish up stories when I'm about 80% done. That's internal, though, and not related to what other people say. Sure, I get some negative comments or criticisms but anytime someone takes the time to actually say something, I must have done something right because I elicited an emotion from them. That's success.

Negative? Nah, I do this for fun. If it were that negative I'd just walk away.

You rocked, and yeah, actually reading a story instead of sounding like an asthma attack....

I have to write another sex scene.

I really want to say, "They have sex. Use your imagination." and leave it at that, but I guess that's not what they're paying me for. And honestly, not what I would be reading for either.

In the story I just finished writing, I literally exit the sex scene after the foreplay.

Because I realized the scene isn't about the sex so much as it was the one character finally giving in to her desires.

After that, it really would just be "first female character goes down on second female character, second female character returns the favor, many orgasms ensue."

I MIGHT still flesh it out a little more but not in any lengthy sense.

Have you ever considered that maybe you cant write any more because the story is done? Maybe when you feel blocked that far along, the best thing to do would be to find a way to wrap it up at that point as elegantly as you can.

So, getting back to the thread... getting carpet 1 bombed for writing about a cheating wife, then getting 1 bombed in the next unrelated chapter by same who is now skipping the rest of my story to get to the cheating wife bit that he hates. You can't please all the people all the time. Sometimes the only person you can please is Dave, who lives on top of a hill in the middle of nowhere.

To all the Daves! You are my spirit animal
