I think today was the last time I'll see my sister in months. I hope to make it back for her birthday, but I just don't know. I was pretty emotional about it earlier.

I just noticed something else I hadn't thought about. Utilities.

Does it make sense to call my old utility providers right about now to tell them that I won't bee needing their services after Friday? Was I supposed to do this sooner? Or later?

And should I have called the new utility providers before now? How the fuck do I figure out who services my home anyway? Water and electricity are easy, I guess, that's just the city. Do I call them now? Should I bang my head against the wall?

Yes, you should telephone your current utility providers. They'll tell you what to do so you don't end up footing the bill for service after you depart from your current residence.

As far as new providers— ask your realtor (if you used one)— you should find out who the suppliers are (localities differ, I've lived in places where water, electricity, natural gas, cable and telephone land lines were all provided by private enterprise-- in other places, cities/townships were the suppliers of water, natural gas and trash collection). Contact them to arrange for new service.

I just talked to my realtor and found out (I was told this, but I'm in a state of irrational, subdued panic so I forgot) that we get some program for free that will actually contact utility people for us and set this all up. Less stress for me. Whoever invented this program is a genius.

Call your real estate agent if you are using one for the purchase. If not, call the selling agent. They can tell you everything you need to know about the community, including who to contact for utilities. They can also help you with any other moving questions you have.

I fully believe in making real estate agents work for their commission.

Congratulations on buying a home! You and S will love having a place to call your own. We bought our first house over a year ago, and enjoy all the space and freedom.

Now I'm reminded of all the painting we still have to do.

That's very true. Ours has got it easy anyway, because he doesn't have to deal with a mortgage and everything attached to it. So he's getting off very light. He's a nice guy though that I'm feeling very comfortable talking to, not someone where you get the feeling they just want to make money off you.

I've got this feeling that I'll be packing until right before we're scheduled to leave.

I think my in-laws are going to come by later and have simultaneous heart attacks when they see everything that I haven't gotten done yet.

I'm using the internet at my in-laws' house right now. I'm staying here for the night, since I kinda lack a bed.

Well I survived the major packing, There are a thousand little things that still need to be stowed away, and I don't even think I'm exaggerating here. Every floor of every room of the house is full of stuff. We'll take care of it tomorrow. Yay for one more day!

We got everything large in the truck. My MiL irritated everyone by deciding she was going to make herself useful and carry all the little pillows. When there was only one other thing in the truck, she thought now would be an appropriate time to pack all the little pillows into it. She kept doing that sort of thing all day. My MiL is a dear, but she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and she's quite overbearing. My SiL helped me get through the day without shooting myself. She can handle her mom pretty well.

There is so much still to do tomorrow and I'm afraid. I got this feeling I'll forget something. I've got to go to the bank and make them write a check for the largest sum I've ever carried. I've got to try and get through the mediacom customer service line for the fourth day in a row. I've got an entire house to clean up. I can't believe I have this much stuff, and all of it is dusty.

I've got this weird feeling that I'm going to really screw up some part of the proceedings.

Oh, and the guy selling the house has asked if we want to give him more money. Just because he's got debt and he thinks we might be able to spare a bit of coin.

Nevermind that my husband and me JUST GOT OUT OF FUCKING COLLEGE. And now I've got to be the bitch that calls back and says "No sorry, we like to keep our money and buy some appliances, thank you very much." I hate doing that stuff, even though I know that it shouldn't be a big deal if we don't want to pay any more than we offered.

Fucktard.


Now I'm going to fall into bed after spending the afternoon carrying one heavy box after another. I only had three people help me, and one of them was my MiL who likes to think that she's making a sacrifice by only taking care of all those heavy pillows. I do appreciate the fact that she's helping, but... really. We helped them too when they moved here only about a month ago. And I wasn't carrying pillows.

Maybe she can make it up to me tomorrow by doing some really thorough cleaning.

So our seller failed to mention that the foreclosure process had already started on his house.

If our realtor (who's awesome) hadn't righted this, I'd be kicking some ass long-distance right about now.

So now I'm wondering whether he's actually going to have that house empty before we arrive tomorrow. After that five hour drive I'll be in a mood to bitch at someone anyway. We'll see.
