It's evolution, baby!...

(and awaaaay we go!)

This is just a conclusion that I've come to (after experience, observation, etc.) that I've decided to throw out on the board: Women are are a half-step more evolved than men are.

Consider the following:
- Women have better memories and actually use more of their
brains when thinking (confirmed by C.A.T. scans, etc.)
- They mature faster and live longer
- They have stronger instincts (protection, maternal, etc.)
- Female chromosomes are xx, male chromosomes are xy; that
means only one bit out of four is male
- Women's bodies are more complex in that they have evolved
to carry and give birth to children
- Women have the only human organ developed exclusively for
sexual pleasure (clitoris); men have a single multi-
fuction device
- They tend to be more intelligent sooner in life
- They are better and more concerned with interpersonal
relationships (you know, those things that societies are
built on)
- They are more open to and deal with change better
- They are more able to integrate different aspects of their
personalities

There's more, but that's what I've got right now. Seriously, you do realize that many (if not most) of the early human societies were matriarchal.

Admittedly, these are generalities and don't apply to everyone across the board, but they do provide a higher baseline. In a sense, women have more potential to draw from, but that doesn't mean that everyone does. Do note that this isn't a put down of men. I know that there are exceptions on both sides.

But, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

You forgot women have a higher tolerance for pain, and a higher tolerance for physical stress. (i.e. g-forces, weightlessness, and spacial disorientation.)

It's a biological fact that men and women are different. Viva la difference.

Wow, it's feeling pretty damn good to be a woman 'bout now! What? You wanna feel? ;)

There is a LOT wrong with your post, Jester and I'm at a loss at where to start. I guess I'll just start with your premise:

Women are are a half-step more evolved than men are.

How can this be? How can men have dominated virtually every human endeavor throughout history until recent times without being at least equal to women? Do you think women simply allowed men to control politics, science, and the arts for millenia? I simply find it hard to believe that men could have succeeded and thrived for so long being evolutionarily inferior to women.

Women have better memories and actually use more of their
brains when thinking (confirmed by C.A.T. scans, etc.)

The data on this subject shows that women are better at certain intellectual tasks and men are better at others. There's no definite advantage. Women have better language and communication skills. But men have been shown to have greater mathematical ability as well as better spatial reasoning. The fact that the world's chess grandmasters, top mathematicians, and top physicists are almost exclusively male can't simply be attributed to environment in this day and age. I've seen nothing to suggest that either side has an advantage in memory.

They have stronger instincts (protection, maternal, etc.)
This too is incorrect. Males are equally instinctual, but it's a somewhat different set of instincts. Boys show competitiveness and tendency to wrestle, fight, and solve problems physically from the earliest ages. These may not be instincts we value as highly today, but they served us well when we naked apes trying to survive in the wild.

Female chromosomes are xx, male chromosomes are xy; that
means only one bit out of four is male

I have no idea how this could make women superior. For one thing, women don't use X's. One X chomosome is wrapped up like a mummy in each cell and never transcribed. It's called a Barr body. The x-chromosome contains genes necessary for both sexes while the y contains exclusively male genes. In other species, this is reversed and males are XX while females are XY. None of this confers any kind of superiority. It's an arbitrary way to divide up male and female genes.

Women's bodies are more complex in that they have evolved to carry and give birth to children

Again, it's obvious that the sexes are different, but more advanced? Again, both sexes have evolved differently, but together to each perform functions that allow survival of the species. To grossly simplify it: women have ovaries and a uterus to carry and bear children and maternal instincts to protect those children. Men have testes and a penis to fertilize eggs and hunting/fighting instincts to provide for and protect their children.

Women have the only human organ developed exclusively for sexual pleasure (clitoris); men have a single multi-
fuction device

One could argue just as easily that the penis is the more advanced structure because it elegantly combines both reproductive and excretory functions. Both structures develop from the same primordia and both sexes get rid of urea and have orgasms... next argument.

They tend to be more intelligent sooner in life

I don't know anything about this. Even if it's true, what does it say? That the sexes develop at different rates? Does this make men less advanced? Other species are born with virtually completely developed intelligence. Does this mean they're more advanced?

They are better and more concerned with interpersonal
relationships (you know, those things that societies are
built on)

This is the first argument that I agree with. But keep in mind that the evironment in which we evolved was much different than the one we live in today. "Male qualities" were extremely important when you needed to kill a buffalo or fight a bear. Sometimes I think we males are better suited for the jungle than modern society.

many (if not most) of the early human societies were matriarchal.

And just as I was starting to agree with you... ;)
I don't know what anthropology you've been reading, but from what I've read matriarchal societies have been a rather small minority throughout history.

As WH said well, men and women are different, and thankfully so. We each possess valuable abilities and resources that benefit the other. viva la differance indeed.

I guess the trade off is that we pee standing up and don't get periods. And you'll never hear a man ask his buddy if a pair of pants make his butt look big

I could be wrong, but I thought Jester's post was in jest.
Maybe it's the Jester/jest connection that lead me to believe so.

If I'm wrong it's not the first time and it certainly won't be the last, but this doesn't sound like jest to me. Who hems, haws, and hedges like this after pulling your leg?

Plus, aren't jokes usually funny? ;)

I know I've read this post about women somewhere before in an article, email joke, or somewhere. I don't believe it was an original list he put together for the board. But, I've been thinking about it all day and can't remember where I saw it. I think it was part of a joke, but don't remember for sure.

Plus, there is a smilie and he started the thread with "and awaaaay we go" indicating he knew these were wacky things on the list.

Oliver-

This is completely off subject, and I apologize for that. I just HAD to let you know what a complete and utter idiot I really am. I was reading your response just now and it suddenly hit me. I had never before realized what your name said! Oliver Clozoff haha.. OMG I can't believe I'm even posting my stupidity!

I always thought the reason I stripped nude when reading your posts/responses was just due to the sheer, unabashed, sexual magnetism you exuded. Now I know it was all a subliminal message thing. LOL

Good grief, where's my pillow and blankie? I think I'm in need of some serious sleep or something. (Note the OR SOMETHING part) ;)

he has a point...

Don't you people know you need to close-caption your jokes for the humor-impaired? ;)

Seriously, though, I remain unconvinced. I don't wanna believe I responded to all that for nothing. hehe

*rubbing hands together and laughing maniacally*

My scheme is working just as I'd hoped! I didn't really know if sublimal persuasion really worked but I'm starting to. <take off all your clothes and tie your arms and legs to each corner of your four-poster bed>

Of course, you can trust me never to use such power for selfish personal gain. <You're getting very hot and a wee bit slippery between the legs>

Not that I don't have "sheer, unabashed sexual magnetism as well, of course. ;)

Men have certain tolerances too.

higher tolerances to:
Dirt
untidyness
male behaviour

and to a certain degree a greater resistance to the disease that is the trashy soap opera.

I tried to be the good little sub I am and do as I was told, just couldn't seem to get that last hand tied! ;)

What made anyone think that I was trying to convince people of the idea? :)
