Its come to this, Lululemon fires employees who called police during a robbery

Snaily likes Lululemon and feels cheated by them

Many of the big chain stores have the same policy.

I urge you to visit an Academy Sports outlet, for example. They keep the safe unlocked, right in the front of the store and if anyone does try to rob them, the employees are directed to help them to prevent penetration by the perpetrator and prevent potential hostage situations. It's a policy where the customer is more important than the money. Most of the time, the cops will track down the idiots who think they're the modern incarnation of Jesse James.

'Upscale retailer' buys stock for $10, displays for sale at $1000. People come and steal. Loss = $10.

Not worth injury, death or being sued.

Markups are simply not that high due to competition.

If it weren't for petty crimes like shoplifting, we would be paying slightly lower prices, the cost of goods including losses are built into the price, just not the price your fertile imagination has conjured up.

The big box retailer I work for has a similar policy. I believe they get ripped off every day by shoplifters. I find it appalling but frankly if the company doesn't want my intervention and the losses are acceptable to them then why should I care? If I intervene and get hurt or killed they will hire my replacement before the week is over.

What truly is pathetic is how brazenly lawless society has become. Buy why not, no bail release when arrested, reduced or dropped charges in a revolving door lack of justice system. This is the reason some businesses have left larger metro areas. The losses are too great to sustain a viable business.

Old Navy In San Fran Closing; Hit 22 Times By Shoplifters In Last Two Days

  • Repeating an all too familiar story in downtown San Francisco, another major retailer has become the victim of rampant shoplifting.
  • In an exclusive interview, an Old Navy worker, who does not want to be identified, described the scope of the problem.
  • “They’re (shoplifters) there every day. When I’m on the floor walking around I would say at least 12, 14 during the day,” the worker said. “It’s really bad because it’s downtown San Francisco and it’s really out of control.”

They will even say during your orientation that the shoplifter of today is a customer in the future, so don't do anything to piss them off.

This is why you should order on-line. Stealing mailed stuff is a Federal offense.

“To say [theft has] risen tenfold in the last five years would not be an understatement,” Kress said, noting that violence has also “increased exponentially.”…

“The last thing I want to do is close stores,” Kress added. “But I’ve got to be able to run them safely and profitably.”…

“It’s continued to escalate,” he said. “So now it’s Tide and Dove and razor blades and Olay, or roasts or shrimp or crab legs.”

And violence has become a constant worry for him.

“We used to chase shoplifters,” he said. “And you’d get the product back, and nobody would ever fight you. … I didn’t worry about somebody pulling a knife or gun on me [40] years ago.”
