Sounds like there needs to be more vehicle control: ban high speed capable vehicles, ban ownership of more than one, crack down on private sales, more thorough background checks on drivers, etc.

Is that your idea of a joke, or are you seriously unaware that we do regulate the right to drive a great deal more than the right to own a gun?

Who am I kidding, of course you know. I also note that you steer entirely clear of placing any blame whatsoever on the cops.

You get background checks and waiting periods to buy and operate a car? :ROFLMAO:

Can't blame the operator, just get rid of the cars and the problem goes away! :ROFLMAO:

I agree. All new cars should have speed limiters preventing them being driven more than 65. More Americans are killed by cars than by guns every year, and we could save millions of lives if we cracked down harder on irresponsible car use.

Drivers will always be irresponsible. That’s why we need more mass transit and bike lanes to provide alternatives to driving.

And redesign the roads we have to make them narrower. One proven technique to get drivers to slow down is to build roads in such a way that drivers always have to worry about scratching their paint. Works like charm!

I think AI driven cars will take over the vast majority driving needs sooner than people think. That would solve a lot of the issues you brought up.

Ban all vehicles except commercial and emergency ones. Mandate bicycle lanes only with recharging stations for them. Goveners on them to top out a 35mph. [Have I left out any other insanities? Oh, make them all walkable cities.]

Traffic violations are police revenue. When to chase is a financial decision.

I'm agreeing with you on nearly all high speed pursuits..... there are are much better avenues for stopping criminals (ya can't outrun Motorola) the entire problem rests with the offending driver not complying with law enforcement....

Pursuing high-speed perpetrators is what aircraft is for. So called high-speed pursuit in automobiles is a brain dead activity fuelled by excessive testosterone and a healthy dose of stupidity. Kind of makes you wonder what would happen if they wiped out a bunch of civilians. They probably wouldn’t care much. at least, not until the payments got made.

The assumption is someone fleeing from a traffic stop is probably hiding bigger violations, like drugs or a body in the car. The person fleeing may assume the cops plan to plant drugs or find an exucse to seize the car.
