I'd like to have italics and some underlined section headings in a story (how-to). The guidelines say not to use HTML. They also say that if you need formatting to put a note in the submission and the editor will leave it in. Is there a best way to indicate where/how I'd like italics and underlines? I usually submit through the text box but I could submit a Word document with the formatting in it if that makes life easier. Or is using formatting pretty frowned on?

Embedding the HTML codes for underlining and italics should be OK. I have submitted text with italics (<I></I>) tags and it has been accepted. This article discusses how to do it.

I think bold, underline, and italics are OK, as is the use of non-breaking space and line break.

You cannot change fonts or sizes.

Yup you're entirely right and you chose the absolute BEST "How-to" to explain it.

Great, thanks. I took that "no HTML" bullet in the submission guidelines too literally.

Make sure you put a note in the comments box that there are HTML tags in the submission.

At one time, the automatic story formatting script would strip them out if you forgot the comment. I think that has been corrected and Italic, Bold, Underline, and HTML codes for special characters like non-break spaces, accented characters and manual line breaks are automatically accepted.
