I have finally accepted that I have retired as a secondhand bookdealer. I have been continuously listed in the UK trade directories for 23 years. I have just asked for my entry to be deleted from the next edition.
I was working as an assistant in someone else's bookshop for 5 years before I started on my own. But now? I've finally retired.
I still have 5,000 or so books in our personal library.![]()
No, they flat out admitted, "We accidentally sent it to Illinois because that's where the field office is. It happens fairly regularly. You'd think someone would check the address that's on top of every single form."
*facepalm*
It's an electronic transfer from the field office to the disability determination office, not a postal transfer. Supposed to be in the right hands now.
Restored my faith in the failure of government bureaucracy after that disturbing excess of efficiency at the BMV.
Sigh. Another rejection for the list. You'd think I'd be used to this by now but, somehow, I still got my hopes up again. Damn.

Hiatus. Sucks. Come play.
Sorry; no keyboard. . .
And what shall you do w/whatever is left?
Congratulations oggbashan.![]()

Read them - again.
By the time I closed my shop I had donated seven tons of books to the National Trust locally.
Last weekend they had a book sale event there. They still had a ton of my books left - more than a decade after my shop closed. I have donated another half ton in the interim.
In the story of my life, my most important defining relationships are not romantic. My friends are the ones I'm most passionate about. What does that say about me? I don't know but maybe in my second 40+ years I'll figure it out.
You OK, Lady ?![]()
As someone who is closing in on their third 40 years, I can say, friends are a good measure of how well you have lived. More than one handful of good friends is doing well. Lovers come and go but friends are for a lifetime. So I'd say you are doing well.
Good to see you around. You still have friends here.
I guess I'm not doing so good then.

I guess I'm not doing so good then.
I've always wanted to have a best friend, but that never seems to be my lot in life. They move away, or they just feel closer to someone else for some reason. Hell, my own husband can't seem to open up to me. Maybe I'm just too weird, I don't know. But I have a writer's group and they appreciate me. I'm grateful for that. You would be surprised at the number of friends you do have.![]()
