After a bit of reflection, I decided this needed a thread of its own as a Holiday Missive for all. Feel free to drop in and send your own Spring Wishes. (I've started it now since I'll be computerless until Sunday night).

Anti-Virus software... !!!

I have anti-virus software. Earlier this year I paid to extend it from 3 computers to 5 so that I can use an old laptop (Win 7) when I'm away. If that laptop gets damaged or stolen it is no real loss.

But the software won't recognise the increased coverage. It insists, despite showing the paid invoice, that I can only cover three computers. I had to disable it on a more modern laptop to cover the old one. And of course there is no one I can actually speak to - all communication has to be by email, and they want me to have all five computers connected at once so they can see the problem.

I haven't got anywhere that will house two desktops and three laptops.

I'll try again after the Easter break. But my old laptop has just updated for 283 days of anti-virus and 28 updates of Win 7. The Firefox updates will have to wait...

Bloody Lawyers.
I think all this tieing-up is down to Microsoft who were persuaded that the user 'hires' the software and all that.

Ogg, slap a copy of Avast free on each one of your computers and be done with it. Other than an occasional ad bugging you, it is some of the best AV software around. As long as you are using the computers for personal stuff not business, you can put it on as many computers as you want.

when we get their damned cold fronts in winter.
