Damn, I hate phone calls after midnight. They are never good news.
As one who's job at one time it was to answer calls in the night, I doubt the word 'never'.
I'll settle for 'rarely', though
School starts in ten days.![]()
Quick question, who hires librarians for a small town, the school board or the city council?
For a small town, there's usually a library board that does the hiring, in my experience. It really depends on how it's funded. Could be by the town or perhaps it was an endowment by a wealthy citizen at some point. The librarians are frequently clerical workers with no library degree and their caliber depends on their love of the library. Some see it as a calling and some as just a job.
I work in the school itself, so it's the school board. I was hired by the principal of the school and then approved by the school board.Quick question, who hires librarians for a small town, the school board or the city council?
When I was on the library board of the village library, it was all volunteers with only the "head" of the board with a degree in library science who served as the "advisor". I'm not really sure she actually had the degree; it's been a long time. I was elected to the library board. I think all our funding was through grants. We were probably one of the few libraries in the country with a state-of-the-art {for that time} computer system and no bathroom. For a small town, there's usually a library board that does the hiring, in my experience. You don't necessarily have to have a degree in library science; that teaching degree would probably do just fine. I have a degree in psychology and my sub license.Thank you.
I'm working on a short story. Probably end up in the V&E category. She is fresh out of college with a teaching degree and having trouble finding a job. I didn't know there was a degree to be a librarian. I had the school board hiring her. An easy change. It has to be a committee holding high morals over her.

As far as the high morals go ....![]()

Great information and much appreciated.
Uh.... I didn't know you had to have a license to have a sub. My sub is not going to be happy.
High morals do cause a war over keeping your job or getting your jollies.![]()
Today was our local Carnival with Carnival Queens from a wide area.
Our of the Queen's floats was followed by an "Alternative Queen", obviously part of the official entourage.
But she was a large Jamaican lady in whiteface make-up. I don't think many of those watching the carnival understood the reference.
What some of them did appreciate were her attendants - two very muscular Jamaican men stripped to the waist to show off their six-packs. At one point they carried the "Alternative Queen" on their shoulders. They must be serious weight-lifters!
Sweet merciful newborn Zeus, silence is a welcome (lack of) sound sometimes.

Anyone need any rain ? We got lots happening right now !
Indeed. Plenty here too. Do not like.
