So I now have an older version of quicktime on my computer that's apparently faulty (doesn't run, just tells me cheerfully that it has encountered an error and needs to close). I want the newer one I had before back. However, every time I try to uninstall faulty quicktime, it tells me something is using it, so it can't.

How the fuck do I get this shit off my computer?

As sexy as that would be to see, I think there could be an alternate solution.

I'm kind of spit balling here, I haven't had to deal with this in a while, but in the options there should be something that says something about having it start when Windows starts up (for faster load times, presumably). Make sure that that option is turned off, reboot the computer, and then try.

If that doesn't work....you might have to do a manual uninstall (find the files and delete them) but that causes problems of its own.

Try starting your computer in safe mode. On most models, keep pushing F8 while booting until that menu comes up. Once you're booted into safe mode, go to Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel and uninstall QuickTime there. Once it's gone, restart your computer normally. Alternatively, if your computer will stay stable long enough, you can go into System Restore and choose a restore point that was before you started having problems. Not as satisfying as the hammer, but you should have a computer that works.
