I found that out a wee while ago. The car thing. It does not make you any later 'cos normally they go to a different place than you do.

Waitresses? Talk to them by name. They generally have a name tag pinned to an interesting place - that's a win-win situation.

I just take the batteries out when they start to chirp. Get batteries the next day.

What really bugs me are the smoke detectors that can't tell the difference between a fire and someone taking a hot shower.

I believe I also had one that alerted me to smog days.
