Fascinating. I understand all the words but I have no idea what this means. I love it when this happens to me with English, because normally I feel pretty comfy about a very wide range of topics.

So, what does that mean? :D

Doe = kits? Was that a typo for kids? As in goats? Or is doe for bunnies? (I don't know the official name for bunny babies so maybe?)

I googled doe + kits and got bunnies and Jane Doe rape kits.

Interesting.
I was sure it was about goats, until your two posts.

I thought it would be goats too, but certainly it takes longer than 30 days for a goat kid to become full term. That's what got me confused.

I've never heard the word kit used for a baby bunny or doe for a momma bunny for that matter. YLSNED (thanks mwy, learned this one from your post a while back).

At least I hope it's not about rape kits. :D

The arrival of baby bunnies is eminent.

I wish we were having baby goats. I'm sure my landlord would think it was awesome but the city, not so much.

Yup, the gestation period seems more rabbitish.

Interesting reading about the rape kits though.

Totally sideways, but the processing of rape kits in the US is an embarrassment. Major grumble. Makes my inner feminist get very riled up.

Here kits are done in the hospital and are saved for two years, in case the victim wants to report later.

Done as in actually, timely, processed for DNA, or simply taken? I apologize for quibbling, but there's a world of difference between getting some swabs from the victim and actually testing them for useful results. That's the disconnect here....thousands of swabs taken, not a damned bit of processing done. It's shameful. A few TV shows (Law & Order, SVU did an exemplary pair of episodes) have documented the problems here, but it gets shoved away otherwise. I'm not an aggressive feminist-type, generally, but this genuinely pisses me off because it feels like an "it's just a chick problem, no big deal" assumption. :(

Oh, that's not what I'd call quibbling. :)

No, as far as I know, they can only be processed if they are to be used as evidence in a criminal investigation. That means someone has to report a crime.

I get the frustration but I do get the point of not having the authorities processing and cross referencing peoples DNA whenever they please too.
The balance between privacy and efficent crime fighting is always tricky.

No, the rape kits are not processed, because a) there is no money and b) they often don't even know which rape kits need to be processed, because there are no reasonable processes established. And nobody cares that they are not processed.

(To be fair though this is true for all DNA processing - there is even a backlog for murder cases.)

I'm not sure if you're commenting on the Swedish situation that I was talking about or the US situation DS was talking about?

Lack of money is probably always a part of it though and backlog is probably pretty universal too, come to think about it.

The discussion about making registers of DNA info has been pretty lively in Sweden though. We have a register of genetic info taken from most people born later than -75, because of screening for PKU.
There was a lot of debate because it came to light, that the police was allowed to use it way more than legally reasonable in the murder of Anna Lind.

I feel like punching somebody.

I also feel like laughing out loud.

Is this what a split personality feels like?

It's great to have a dog around when you are out in the sticks, I just wish this one wouldn't insist on practicing her Yeti yodle in the middle of the night

I am still reeling over the cost of four dozen cupcakes!

What they are able to charge for empty calories these days is criminal. Seems that the crazy expensive cupcake fad might be slowly dying though.

That said ... were they any good? ;)

Forty five dollars a dozen. Before specialized decoration and tax.

*still in state of shock*

On the upside, they made a gluten-free chocolate one for me. It was quite tasty. :cattail:
