I recently found out that my husband has started emailing an old girlfriend, I want to know if there is a way to find out what his email password is without having to change it. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

maybe

I do not but when my guru son gets up I will see what he can do......will be around noon.....I am a male and I hate cheaters......If you want someone to talk to or a shoulder I am here...

I really don't understand why he feels the need to email her (this isn't the first time I caught him). The first time I caught him because she was emailing him thru myspace, which I have the password for. Believe me there was nothing innocent about it, I confronted him, we talked and he said he would never do it again, but low and behold here we are again. We had talked about having a threesome at one point and I told him that I wasn't comfortable with that yet (I have never been with a woman). That was his excuse the first time this happened, he was trying to find a woman for "us". Sorry to vent, but I needed to.

You can try the "forgot password" option that most email programs offer and see if you can guess the answers to the questions. It may show on the screen or it may reset the password.

There is software for cracking passwords out there, but I'd be careful of something like that.

Another more direct and confrontational option would be to walk him over to the computer. Stand over his shoulder. Tell him to log in while you watch and open one of her emails. And ask him on the spot what the hell is going on. Naturally this gives him a heads up that you are suspicious...

Chances are you'll be able to guess his answers to any questions on the "forgot password" screen, as another poster mentioned :)

i know there is some way to run a program that records all of the keys typed on a keyboard...if such a program exists there's ur answer.

there are many programs for parents to track what their kids do online. try on of them, I am not sure of the names of the programs.

hmmm

This is a slipery slope your climbing. Does he have all your passwords as well?

And if you can't find out his password, just go to control panel, user accounts, sign on as administrator; and set a complete brand new password for the whole computer.

Then don't let him know it.

As a computer tech I must warn you though. If you enter someone's email without their permission it is a federal crime. If you install a keylogger program (which is the program you guys are talking about that involves seeing everything someone types) without letting other people who use that computer know that you have installed it, it is a federal crime. I'm not saying not to, or that you dont have good reason, i'm just telling you some of the downsides.

if there aint a trust then the relationship aint worth saving if ya ask me.

He is emailing for the same reason he was before. Also you don't do threesomes with old gfs, seriously. If you need another women, you find her, not your husband. I suggest you try a MFM threesome instead.

My advice is to just assume he is emailing her the same stuff and plan accordingly. You can only change your reactions, people who lie about such things will just continue. Sometimes your changing your reaction will change the people around you but don't bet on it.

If my time on lit has taught me anything at all, its that people in exclusive relationships should not be emailing other people things they could not openly share with their partner.

What if he gives her the password?

I am thinking she should just ask for his password.

Hi Fairyqueen -

I have several pieces of advice to offer:

1. Talk to your husband rather than sneaking into his e-mail account. Tell him how you feel, what your needs are in this situation, and what you expect of him. Firstly, if you covertly access his e-mail then you're being just as untrustworthy as he is. Secondly, if your marriage is healthy (or has a chance of ever being healthy) honesty is waaay better than dishonesty/sneaking around/etc.

2. See if you can get him to honestly tell you how he feels and what he needs. If the two of you can get to the bottom of why he feels the need to be in contact with an old girlfriend, you probably have a better chance of working it out.

3. If it's truly about having a threesome, you both need to be healthy enough to get your feelings out in the open. If you are not ready, then it shouldn't happen. If you ARE ready, it probably should NOT be with one of his old girlfriends (there's already too much potential there for jealousy, etc.)

4. The federal laws governing e-mail tampering/keylogging/computer privacy have lots of caveats. For example, it is not uncommon (or illegal) for a person who jointly owns a computer with his/her spouse to have a forensic analysis done to dig up evidence of infidelity or whatever. Best bet - consult a computer forensics expert or, even better, an attorney.

4a. If you decide to go the route of keylogging to get his e-mail password, there are several excellent (and affordable) programs for this purpose - SpyGraphica, SpectorSoft, and ActivityMonitor to name a few.

I wish you luck. I hope it all works out whatever way it's supposed to.

I want to thank everyone for all of their advise, I'm going to talk to him first, that seems to be the best route and go from there.

Keep this in mind

Leopards really, really, really don't change their spots.

Definately conversation and possibly counseling would be better than breaking in and being on the wrong end of things

technically a keylogger would be easiest to deal with, as password reset options are mixed and could reset it leaving him without..
secondarily you can always put his balls in a vice and make him give you the passwords... who knows you might get lots of other admissions as well
as for legally.. if its a joint owned computer, and the Email is locally accessed your fine, if you use the information to get a password to a server based account.. its 'breaking' into their system so its a major grey area.. though the company and the govm't are unlikely to go after you on it unless he pressed charges

g'luck with the talk..

Darling, talking means nothing.

Talk is the easiest path to deception. He will lie if he's doing it no matter what you cry and what you threat. Evidence first, gives you leverage and power to decide weather you even want to deal with him anymore. By keeping you in the dark he's taking the choice out of your hands to decide weather you are willing to put up with his affairs.

one way or the other, it's better to know. For your peace of mind and sanity.

good luck.

Kisses
