Is My Google Infected?

Depends on what it is of mine that you're going to be shaking with your hand Mab.

Gauche

I find this oddly intriguing. Does that mean I've been reading too many dirty stories?

Nah, it's just Gauche, man of intrigue. Ignore it. P. ;)

dr_mabeuse: It imported all my favorites, although in alphabetical order, rather than in the weird idiosyncratic way I had them organized.

If you navigate to bookmarks --> manage bookmarks --> view, you can then sort your bookmarks using several criteria or none at all. Of course, you can also do this manually if the spirit doth move you.

Also, if you want a link to M$ WORD on your bookmarks toolbar, that is easy to do. Just navigate to "manage bookmarks," make a new bookmark in your "bookmarks toolbar folder (which should be the one on top)" then make a black word document in whichever directory (C:\ for example) finally link the new toolbar bookmark to the newwordfile.doc file.

When you click on the icon in your toolbar, word will launch and bring up the dummy file you just created.

You may want to check out some of the extensions available. There is some truly amazing functionality available for FireFox.

My favorites include:

  • mouse gestures: navigate and open new tabs with a flick of the wrist.
  • ieview: (so you can view blacksnake's IE highly proprietary website)
  • tabs: the holy grail of web surfing, enable you to open multiple pages in tabs as in a file folder instead of multiple and messy instances of the browser. (can't live without it!)
  • dictionary search: enables you to highlight a word or phrase in a webpage and via a right-click context menu, look it up and any number of dictionaries, translators, encyclopedias, quotation books, etc...

Not a problem. Click on 'Bookmarks', click on 'Manage Bookmarks' and then drag 'em around to suit yourself, put them in folders, move them between folders, or whatever.

Now can anyone suggest anything for a site that absolutely insists on me using IE, except actually using the bl***y thing?

Alex

There is an extension for FireFox which allows one to view and use proprietary sites which depend on non-standard quirks and deprecated proprietary tags specific to IE. Most IE "optimized" sites can be fully utilized in FireFox using this extension.

Tools --> Extensions --> Get More Extensions

The only site of which I am aware that absolutely insists upon IE is "launch.com." In the case of sites such as this one, once you have the viewie extension, you can right click on the page and select (view this page in IE)
