Is Communism Taught In Schools

I am fascinated by politics in general and in Australia we are taught at school about most political structures. From command economies Totalitarianism Communism, Marxist Socialist to total free enterprise systems. It just seems to me that the US always has witch-hunts over communists.
What are you taught about communists at a high school level. In Australia while there are two major parties our governments there are many minor parties from the extreme left to the extreme right. We even have the Australian Marijuana Party.
Your two major parties from a distance appear to be right wing and extremely right wing Gangis Khan looks like a social democrat next to George (WWW.) Bush.

No insult or slur is intended I just want to know if the education process in the US id fair on all issues of political education.

I think it's been a long while since we've had a good "witch hunt".

Communism is taught here in the US just as much as every other political system.

At least... that's what I've found in the schools I've attended.

I can't attest for the 46 states that I haven't been educated in.

God I hope not

This is AMERICA afterall. I mean we are the free in the free market system. Capitalism has made us the Super Power we are today. Communism should be taught but as the dream it is. Not as a truly viable economic system, which it is not.

Even when during the "McCarthy Era" the history of Communism was taught in schools -- generally with a "know thy enemy" sort of slant.

There was also a definite distinction made between the theoretical Marxist version and the reality of the Leninist/Stalinist version. My teacher made a big point of how both versions gave little credence to the realities of Human Nature with emphasis on how the Stalinist Version relied on "brain-washing" the poor soviet people into accepting it.
