Today I downloaded some Windows ME updates for IE and
Outlook Express.

OE works fine.

IE,oh my.

When I open IE I don't get chance to see the home page before
I'm inundated with pages of porn sites.Boxes saying that I'm downloading a movie, etc.

As soon as I close 1 page up pops another. The only way to stop it
is to shutdown.

Any ideas anyone?.

Funny thing is I normally don't use IE.

Something has reset your home page to a site that triggers all those pop-ups. Go to Tools/Internet Options and click "Use Blank" for your home page.

You should then be able to go to your normal home page and reset it properly.

Do a virus scan before reopening IE. There was a thread a couple of days ago about a worm that resets the home page whenever you re-boot.

Thank you

I did a virus scan and found 17 files infected with
Hacktool Spammer and J.S Exhibition.

Thanks again.

Sounds like you need to upgrade to a virus scan that has "real-time" scanning for viruses.

PC-Cillin from Trend Microsystems and Norton are two that I know have good real-time scanners that check for malicious HTML, ActiveX, and Java commands (among other possibilities.)
