internet/computer history issue

Folks, I accidently clicked the remember me button on a lit forum page. Now I can't get it out of the address bar. I have deleted the cookies, temp files and history via the tools bar, then rebooted the computer. When I log out of Lit it says all cookies cleared

But if I type "www.l" in the address bar I get a choice of selections in a pull down menu. I cant get rid of it.

Please help!!!!

quick solution: type in the addresses of a host of other sites other than lit that begin "l" or "li". eventually, lit will fall to the bottom, esp if a few days elapse before the next time someone types in that address.

The problem is this.... the drop down menu with the lit addresses is not the regular one. See when I clear the history then click on the down arrow at the right side of the address bar, a drop down window appears - empty. But if I type in www.li...a slightly different drop down menu appears with 5 different lit forum addresses. I can't get rid of these.

autofill

You may want to try to disable the autocomplete option on your IE browser window. Click on tools, then internet options, then content, scroll down to personal information and click on autocomplete, click on it, and make sure the web addresses option is not checked. Hope this helps.

hope this works...

I can turn off the autocomplete thing...but the list is still there. Of course...after I rebooted I could not get back on lit for a while...I panicked thinking I'd messed something up for sure...alas I tried to get on from my son's computer and found the same thing so I knew I didn't mess it up....but damm.

Any other suggestions for getting rid of the list?

Thanks for trying to help.

Click on Tools and then choose Internet Options. On the General Tab just above the Clear History button there is an option to "Delete Files". Clicking that option will clear your cache. Click Apply, not just Okay.

Also, you should try clicking on the Content Tab. Then click on the Auto Complete button there to bring up the Autocomplete Settings. Uncheck the Use Auto Complete For Web Addresses Option. And then, you may want to click on clear forms, even though, the web address for literotica is not a "form" it sometimes helps to do this. Click Apply, not just Okay.

When you have done all that, completely close your browser. Do not just click the X in the top corner to close it, but go to File and choose Close. That actually makes a difference in what the browser choses to remove/remember. Clicking the X closes the window but doesn't technically close out the browser file even though you have no browser windows still open. Weird, I know.

going to try...

I just tried it...my "apply" but was not active....I'm going to close the browser as you said...back in a minute.

I did everything sarojade suggested...it's still there. The new problem will be to explain how/why I installed the program on the computer......

You could put it in a hidden folder or obscure place, uninstall it after use, or simply explain by saying, "IE wasn't running well, and I read this program could help clear out some of the junk that was slowing it down, so I downloaded it and gave it a try. It seems to be working better now." :)

Is this a work computer?

yes and no

Not really - I use it for work, but it is my personal computer....the only other person who has access is dh (he does comp programing) and I don't care if he knows I'm on lit...actually he already knows I read I'm sure....but it just happens that the links it saved were to some of the more shall we say "wild" lit forum topics and I'm not sure I'm ready for him to see that.

But I think I like your explaination...thank you.

IIRC, the history for the autocomplete function is stored in the registry. Anti spy-ware programs, like Ad-aware, consider them "neglible risk" spyware, but can be configured to remove all "Most Recently Used" history entries from the registry.

Adding a spy-ware remover to your system is a logical choice, even if your intent is to cover your tracks. :p

got it...thanks to everyone!!!!

Actually I have ad aware on my puter...and norton and who knows what else... Just so you all know...the problem was solved by turning off the auto complete, then deleting cookies, temp files, clear history, and then closing the browser from the file menu. This seems to have done the trick. Now I will be alot more careful about those damn "remember me" buttons.... (by the way the button was not the one on the logg in but rather somewhere else....

Thank YOU all again.
Hugs and kisses to each of you.

Can you select which cookies you're deleting though?

Or is there a way to protect certain cookies?

It is a giant pain in the ass to go through them manually to preserve the ones I want for banking and forum log-ons etc.

Of course, if I remembered to clear them more frequently, I guess it wouldn't be as bad.

I'm not sure about that but it does clean everything and has a few more useful features as well.

cookies.

I clear cookies and history frequently....just in case. But I had no idea how many are saved in those temp files....no matter how much deleting you do....

Yup. Firefox is better, and yes you can select which cookie you're deleting. My fav thing about Mozilla is no IE errors, and theres always a box that pops up with one.

I also suggest a portable version of Firefox that leaves no registry traces, sits in its own folder (easy to camoflauge), and you can have multiple versions of it on one machine; perhaps one for privacy and one for general use. There is also a useful extension called "Split Link" that allows you to see just where on the internet you will go once you click a link. Useful for sites that have a redirect script and normal address on one link. www.portableapps.com has a good, ad-free version. I never surf without it.

To get rid of those annoying url's that won't leave your address bar if auto-complete is on you can create another user account that is an admin account and go through your manual cleaning process of your "bugged" account, careful to fully delete the index.dat from history. When using IE its also helpful to set the cache max to 50MB to keep it from getting corrupted.
