Hey Chicagoland Authors:

Any interest in participating in a writers group made up of Literotica members who would meet periodically to read, discuss, and critique each others' erotic writings?

Looking for active participants who want to meet and discuss writing and ideas on a regular basis. Group would have writing exercises, share ideas, support each other with edits and/or critiques.

If enough interest, we would set up an initial meeting for interested parties to discuss options, regular meeting days/times/locations. We have three interested parties so far.

So what say you Chicagoland Authors?

I wish. :(

I am sad to be missing friends.

Well that is the other option: Who would be interested in a virtual author's group? I the technology and resources to link us all up in a web meeting. Have phone, have PC, have internet? Then we have a meeting. Still same thing just not face to face.

Honestly I thought we'd have a lot more response. Will leave this open for another week and then either schedule or call the idea dead.

It may just be the time of year. Don't give it up yet.

Web meetings could be good, too.

There are several option that would make a virtual meeting quite good. If you have a web cam there are software options to Skype which would allow up to 10 (I think that's right) people to video conference.

There are other software option for group voice conferences, Skype being one and Team Speak being another. I just happen to be a sysadmin of a team speak server we could use, as it requires a dedicated server to function. Whereas Skype uses a general server but you are limited to the number of connections in the conference.

Just some thoughts on ways to do this without using telephones.

I'd be interested in either a virtual group or a face-to-face group, even both. :rose:

Yeah, I'd be interested. Maybe we could meet in a bar? :D

I'm behind this idea as well, but in my experience it's somewhat impractical. Most bars are loud, which impinges on conversation. I've been part of a group that has met at a bar for the last four years and every time we tried to find an alternate meeting place that also served booze and vittles we struck out. Either the noise level was even higher than our home base or we were forced to guarantee a certain number of participants buying full meals to be granted a private space.

I can also add that meeting in a bar had a negative impact on the amount of writing-centered discussion. After a round or two politics and sex tended to dominate the talk. While I'm all for a rousing chat over politics and sex or both (even at the same time), anyone with a serious interest in working on his or her writing would likely go home unsatisfied.

It's a quandary, really, because meeting over food and drink can really improve the congeniality of a group - and that's certainly something that you'd like to see in a writers group.

Have to agree with Midwest Yankee. (pains me though, lol)

Was thinking there are a lot of freely accessible public library rooms, possibility of privately hosted in a home or finding a place where they don't mind us meeting as long as we are puchasing too.

There are a lot of pros and cons to each of the locations so that's why the need for a primary meeting of those interested.

Myself, I need the creatively stimulating push. It helps to know I have a group meeting and I need to post my ode, my 30 minute story or any one of multiple writing exercises. The discussion on the verbage, useage and general context and meaning is deeply needed. Doing with a friendly face across the table makes it better but I could cope with virtual.

OK, folks, there seem to be 4-6 interested parties. Nero and I would be willing to host and I will be sending emails with details.

Write on!

I think it'd be lovely, though I don't know how practical it would be for me since I'm still a little ways away.

I'd love to stay informed though.

We could even consider alternating our meeting sites between a location west and south of the city with one that's more to the north in order to better accommodate anyone traveling from north of the cheddar curtain.

Date and Time set for first meeting

All who had replied should have received an email from me about the meeting set for tomorrow at 7 pm. If there is anyone who wants to participate but hadn't chimed in on the thread, send me a pm tonight so I can send you the meeting location.

We have four confirmed, two maybe's, a couple of no's and a lot of unconfirmed.

I'll just add that if you don't get around to sending your last-minute PM to wenchie until business hours tomorrow, I usually check in here off and on during the day so you could send it my way and I'll send along the meeting location.
