Hi .. My name is Todd and I am an insomniac .. Can't sleep, so thought I would start a thread for similar listers to join and share thoughts or whatever..

Since we can't sleep, might as well make the most of it.. whatever "it" might be ..

And you have a cat avatar too! Cool! :rose:

I actually used to have a cat that looked very similar..

Getting him to pose for the pic was too difficult though..

I often have sleepless nights. Get to sleep ok, but wake up around 3 or so ('call of nature'), then that is all she wrote. Toss, turn, read, get up and roam the house. Trying to watch TV at 4 a.m. is a total waste. Have a small glass of milk, try again. Maybe, maybe not. I have some sleep aids my psych prescribed, but they are terribly expensive so I don't use very often. Perhaps I should not complain that my mind is so active....

Yeah.. I have a prescribed sleep aid as well, the issue is .. getting addicted to them.. and if I wait too late to take it re-entry is difficult..

There is probably some subliminal activity going on .. If I could open the door and tell it to "shut the f**k up" ..

I am similar. I used to struggle to even get to sleep, my mind just wouldn't shut off. Now I have a sleeping pill, that doesn't make me feel tired or drowsy, it just settles my mind enough to get to sleep. But more often than not I am awake after 4 hours and can't get back to sleep.

I've given up laying there trying to get back to sleep and just being frustrated, so I like to just get up and get things done, do some writing or reading if I wake up enough.

I randomly had a 9 hour sleep on Saturday though and it was bliss. Felt 'normal' for once :D

As one who normally only get 4-5 hrs of sleep per night, I am very glad to see this club! Do we get T-shirt’s?

Enquiring minds.. would you be able to reveal the identity of the "sleeping pill" ..?

Cute..

So.. that is why I keep feeling like something is causing an itch.. Hmmm... interesting.. damn sheep..

Years ago a friend, who's a clinical psychologist, solved my insomnia problem. It was quite simple, despite one thing I didn't do at the time.

His solution:

1. There are only two things you should do in bed. One is sleep.
2. He had me set my alarm clock for the time I needed to get up. Until then, I never needed an alarm. If I woke up before the alarm went off, I could go to the bathroom, but nothing else.
3. Take the television out of the bedroom.

Within two weeks I was waking up to the alarm clock. I eventually took the TV out of the bedroom. A lot of insomniacs get up and try to get something done since they're awake. Doc told me that if I couldn't sleep, rest. I was surprised by how much the rest helped.

Insomnia strikes again..

Physically tired.. can hardly hold my eyes open.. As soon as my head hits the pillow... "Boing" .. wide awake.. non-specific thoughts circling through my head.. every little sound is annoyingly loud..

Anyone awake and want to chat..? about anything .. which may be counter-intuitive .. but at least I will be engaged in a meaningful discussion.. ?

Buenos dias! Como estas? Good morning! How are you?

I'm actually tired but I'll chat.

Awww.. Thanks Jada..

So, I gave in and took 1/2 of a pill that will slow my brain down.. a whole one works better, but have to be coherent in 5 hours ..

You have been busy this evening here.. I have seen several posts you started this evening.. I enjoy reading them too btw..

But ... there is a kitty pictured by your avatar ... OK, the other type, with breasts and longer legs, but still ...

You are welcome to join the sleeplessness party.. Not wanting to violate any equal opportunity sanctions..
