Well I wish I could tell you I found the cure-all....but I still Suffer. What I can tell you is that I have HORRIBLE anxiety attacks when I try to sleep at night...so I turn the TV to C-Span. That and Anti-depressants and Tylenol PM have helped me alot. I also find that when I work with my plants or paint (2 of my favorite hobbies) I sleep better and have fewer panic attacks. My panic attacks have stemmed from being anorexic for 3.5years followed immediately (without therapy or recovery) by pregnancy...in which I decided that it wasn't about me so I ate and never looked back. Right after I gave birth the hormone changes did me in and the panic attacks got completely unbearable. After doing a TON of research I learned that Anxiety Disorder and Depression are generally associated with insomnia (sometimes severe) due to the over-absorbtion of the chemical Seratonin. My Dr. put me on a Medication commonly used for Generalized Anxiety Disorder called Effexor...it is a type of anti-depressant called a SSRI...or (i can't remember what the first S stands for..i think it's Systemic) Seratonin Re-Uptake Inhibitor. What it does is stop the hormones in my body from thinking that there is too much seratonin there and producing chemicals that cause my body to absorb it too quickly.
It has helped alot...but not completely. I hope some of this information helps. Good luck!

Big HUGS for you as you have had a hard time of it.

My friends & I have noticed that my normal easy going self has vanished and I have lost control of my emotions (EXAMPLE getting hassled by dickhead security guard I lost it and got so agro I thought I was going to belt him...NOT me at all ) and can run through every emotion in 10 minutes and DEPRESSION drives me nuts as even though I have more health worries than most I'm normally the one pulling pranks,Joking & laughing.

I have always suffered with insomnia, presently I just accept it and have concluded that I am just one of those people that don't require huge amounts of sleep. I have my moments though. One thing that I have discovered is having a set routine. Doesn't always work, but sometimes you can get your body used to doing things at certain times.. including sleeping.

My ten year old also is an insomniac. I use melatonin with him. We call it his sleepy pills. Doesn't always work, but it can act like a placebo for him. He takes it and knows it is supposed to make him sleepy. Melatonin is great because it doesn't feel like a drug induced sleep. It is a natural chemical that your body already produces. In insomniacs, more often than not, their body doesn't produce enough melatonin.

Good luck!

Guess it's off to get "MELITONIN" it seem that it is what works for a few people but have to check with my specialist.

:D

Hi, my first night on here as a member...lol ive visited literotica many many times, and ofcourse tonight i just decided to sign up as a member and submit a story for kicks...ive written erotica when I couldnt sleep..I have always suffered from insomnia...and like someone who previously posted my parents have often times reminded me and company about the antics this caused. Melatonin worked for me for a bit until I got ill and was no longer allowed to take it ...I highly recommend it...you can get it in liquid or in pill form and the liquid is somewhat nasty in taste but you can put it in tea or what not...in your case pills might be better....my only relief now is what many have posted already ...sexual release ...which sometimes means 3+ orgasms a night ..which induces an extra shower sometimes too :) and very very sore areas of my body in the morning ....but I usually only need around 15 minutes of real hard sleep to function for the day....ive also noticed that patterns are very very good...sleep at the same time nightly even if u need to just lay there some nights and other days push yourself to that time...that has helped me greatly at times....everyone needs something else ...hopefully someone is helped by these suggestions :)

P.S. another thing to try is changing your sleeping area...maybe firmer pillows or softer ones or finding what u sleep best on...I noticed that when I visited a specific family member and slept in their guest room I slept soooo good...Still to this day I swear I am going to get the exact mattress they have in their guest room...thats my only guess to why I sleep so well there...

No Sleep

I hope it is as comforting for you as it is for me to know i have so much company. I have had this problem for the last ten years or so. Hugs to you for all the medical problems hope they find a kidney for you soon and your on your way to recovery.

Meanwhile if you can take it Melatonin is about the only thing that seems to help me. It has to be taken regularly however not just on nights you think about it. Seratonin also helps if your not producing enough. THink sun which you guys have in abundance if you can get outdoors or sit in an open window. A boring book sometimes helps or I have been know to turn on cable to a boring movie and sit in my recliner and sleep while hubby has the kingsize to himself. Sex is good however even the best man only naps when finished so I don't think it would solve your troubles. I hope for your sake you do find a lady who would like to rub your troubles away or wash themlol! it couldn't hurt.

Lots of luck and remember I don't know who said it but someone did that the smartest people in the world need the least sleep so don't fight it and do something interesting while your awake and then brag about it to your friends who have to slepp and don't have time. It will drive them nuts;)

Oh YES this would be my favorite method too & even if you couldn't sleep you couldn't care either, BUT unfortunately that isn't an option for me at this time as I'm ALONE:(

If you read back over my posts you will see why.

THANKS for posting:D

LOL If I started a thread on my health troublesI'd likely fill the first few pages with out a post & there will not be a transplant for me for other health reasons.

I'm seeing my local doc Sat to ask about melatonin (wondering why the sleep clinic@ the hospital never told me this).

I often go days with none at all(sleep) then crash out but this has some danger to it as I have gone off with a mouth full of food,
smoking etc also I have othershealth issues that can cause my death if I drop off at the wrong times.

I'm on DIALYSIS and that operates via a tube into my PEROTNEAL cavity which only allow short/quick showers.

My late FIL was on peritoneal dialysis for a while, and then it was determined that it didn't work well enough for him; I forget why, but they took the port out and he ended up with the regular kind. So I'm always interested in hearing how peritoneal dialysis works for other people.

I was going to say that when I'm suffering from insomnia, I jack off...or in my case, it would be jill (asking pardon in advance from any Jills out there) but I see where other people have given the same answer. So you say you do already? Well, do it some more...as with chicken soup, it can't hurt!

I have also had success with counting backwards from 1000. Good luck!

Thanks ST but more wanking ?????? it's anywhere between 2 and 4 times a day now and some extra gentle play anytime in between.:D

Insomnia

I suffered with insomnia for years. I too tried everything including heavy narcotics (legal). I thought it might be P.T.S. but nothing I tried worked. I then heard about Restless Leg Syndrome. I went to a meeting and they recommended MIRAPEX. First night I took one tab (0.125mg) in the evening then one tab at bed time. No change. The next night I doubled the dose at bedtime. In 15minutes I was out like a light! Slept great! What was amazing was that normally my bed was all tore-up. Not that night or since. I take 0.25mg at night and it works great.

Good Luck

The "S" in SSRI stands for Selective...Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor.

From what I recall, it works on the same receptors in the brain that SSRI's and Nortripyline work on...so you are getting the benefits of two drugs in one.

Gee, I deal with it by sitting up on Lit all night, sleeping for a couple of hours, and then trying not to look too hung over at work
