This is me just venting. Y’all can comment or not. There was a time in USA when mainstream politics wasn’t rabidly extreme. I am probably left of center on most issues, but I refuse to get locked into left or locked out of right. I watch the show. but I don’t care to participate in most threads. The politics forum reminds me of an episode of the original Star Trek. An alien entity manipulates the Star Trek crew to fight Vulcans or Romulons to feed it's hunger for hate.

The difference between Republicans and Democrat couldn't be starker right now. The Republicans are the rabid extremists. The Democrats are the calm centrists.

You're not sitting impassively above the fray. You've picked your side, and it's the wrong one.

The OP sounds like one of those "progressives" that withheld their vote from Kamala or voted for Trump…

🤬

We. Told. Them. So.

The political center in America is very far to the right of where it should be -- that is to say, where it is in most countries.

I'm going to resist the temptation to be sarcastic as fuck but you missed the point of my vent about taking sides. I hate both parties. The only thing worse than being a Democrat is being a Republican. I wish there was a third-party candidate who I I wanted to support. You seemed to be so focused on hate for the other party that you can't see the faults in your own.

Believe me, I see plenty of faults in the Democrats. It's just that when the other side is tossing out lie after lie about us, it has a way of making us put our differences aside to focus on what's immediately before us. But whatever is wrong with the Dems, we did not nominate a profoundly unqualified man-child who openly vowed to use the presidency for his personal vendettas (and that is just about the only promise he has kept). There's a time and a place to criticize my own party for not being a strong enough advocate for single-payer health care and progressive taxation and abortion rights...but when our only alternative is Mr. "Grab 'em by the pussy" is not that time.

Let me try to be clear, I don't think there is anyone here who hates trump and his pathetic band of misfits more than I do. Typical of this room, some of you believe what you want to believe not what I'm saying. You extremists on both sides should consider me more of a Lincoln Republican, not that I ever would be.

What kind of politics are you looking for in a third party?
That's not an easy question to answer. The short answer is moderate but I hate to limit myself with qualifiers. How about intelligent, practical, but compassionate, and inclusive. I'd rather take each issue separately. My feelings about border security as well as other issues are impacted by my spiritual beliefs. I've long felt that the US taxpayers shouldn't have to foot the bill for western security from Chinese, and Russian threats but I would have initiated foreign policy in a far more sophisticated and statesmanlike manner. I would support a presidential candidate who doesn't call people names like a 5th grader.

What you’re describing is the Democratic Party.

This post says EVERYTHING you need to know about debating politics.

I get it. When I tell Trump-haters I hate Trump they automatically think I agree with everything on the Left. Including reparations. Banning all guns. Hatred of Reagan. It makes me think I really am on a political island.
The Democratic Party is a big tent. Conservatives think the Democrats are a mirror image of the Republican Party, a monolith where everyone is expected to march in lockstep, but there are lots of different factions in the Democratic coalition. That makes it hard for the Democrats to speak with a single voice even in times of crisis, but it also make them more pragmatic and egalitarian.

Yeah, let's all pick sides like we did in the Civil War.
The Confederacy was wrong. The Union was right. The United States would be a better country now if we’d treated the slavers like the traitors they were instead of “clasping hands over the bloody chasm”.

Yeah, let's all pick sides like we did in the Civil War.

Says the guy who claims to be a moderate but hates everything and everyone conservative while embracing the policies and politics of the Left.
